Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
I was a staff writer for a small weekly in Ocean City, NJ.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
Yes. I own a Remington.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Murphy Brown!
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be a journalist means to deliver accurate, engaging , high quality content in a timely manner covering the latest news and trends.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
Open ended assignments work best for me.
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Wordpress, Photoshop, Adobe, SiteMaker, InDesign, MS Office
What's your favorite social network?
Facebook. Duh.
Who do you wish followed you?
Miranda July. Her writing has always been an inspiration to me. It's so groundbreaking and yet, at the same time, so painfully human.
Why did you become a journalist?
Writing has always been my greatest passion. Journalism also gives me a chance to discover the everyday stories people have to tell.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I did. AND the yearbook. AND the literary magazine.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I wrote a feature for Philadelphia Magazine on the positive aspects of Gen Y. My generation gets so much hate, it's crazy!
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Keep going. And then after that, keep going some more.
When's the best time to pitch you?
The morning.
