Gigi or Nana? The difficult process of picking a grandmother name. Original
Stephanie Vozza, Special to The Washington Post Fri, October 2, 2026 at 5:00 AM EDT Add Yahoo as a preferred source to see more of our stories on Google. Add Yahoo on Google My first grandchild, Nolan, is due in early February. As I've been sharing the news with friends, I expected the first question to be, "Are you excited?" Instead, nearly everyone asks, "What's your Grandma name going to be?" Apparently, becoming a grandmother today comes with a branding decision.

We spent 2 days in roomettes on an Amtrak train. Our trip was nice, but it cost more than our first-class flights home. Original
I've always been a fan of trains. As a child, my favorite book was "The Little Engine that Could," and I've seen the Hitchcock classic "North by Northwest" at least a half dozen times. So, when I saw that Amtrak offered cross-country train travel, I was immediately intrigued. I'd taken a five-hour train ride from Detroit to Chicago before, but I'd never been on a longer journey by rail. It seemed like a unique way to kick off our annual family vacation.

¿Nunca? Si no te diviertes —de verdad—, quizá sea hora de replantearte tu vida laboral, dice Bree Groff, autora de “Today Was Fun: A Book About Work (Seriously)”.

5 things to do to stay motivated after a conference
Conferences can be great for creating energy and fueling motivation. I recently attended a creative living workshop led by Elizabeth Gilbert at Canyon Ranch in Tucson, Arizona. I left feeling ready to take on the world. Unfortunately, that feeling can fade when you log off the computer, step off the plane, or simply reenter normal life. For me, my feeling of confidence towards more creative projects started to dwindle and imposter syndrome reentered my internal dialogue.
4 ways high-achievers use tech to get more done
Technology can be a double-edged sword. The right amount can fuel productivity, but too much can become a time waste. As with most things, the key is striking a healthy balance. Unfortunately, the deck is stacked against you. Apps and websites are designed to grab and hold your attention. So, how do successful people resist? “High-achievers use technology as a tool, not a distraction,” says Sachin Puri, chief growth officer at the web-hosting provider Liquid Web.

A better cover letter
Online applications usually include an optional field where you can upload a cover letter. Think “optional” means you don’t have to include one? Think again. According to a recent survey of recruiters from the career services platform Zety, 89% expect a cover letter, and 87% say it’s a key factor when deciding whom to interview. “Job applications are super complicated today,” says Jasmine Escalera, Zety’s career expert.
Here's the best way to quit your job without burning bridges
"A lot of people boomerang back to a company, team, or manager in a fairly short time," says Wilding, who is also a contributor to Fast Company. "Having strong relationships with leaders and colleagues could also be a good for getting a reference, LinkedIn recommendation, or referrals to new roles." Delivering a resignation, however, can involve heightened emotions.
¿Mentir en tus pruebas psicométricas? Mala idea
Why you should stop trying to game personality tests during job interviews
You're applying for a job and made it to the next step in the hiring process: the dreaded personality assessment. Few people like to take these tests-especially when a job offer hinges on it. And are these tests even legit? You want to showcase that you're right for the job, and some of the questions seem like no-brainers.

Or perhaps you were charged with taking care of siblings? The person you were inside your family relationship can impact how you act in the workplace today, says Dr. Alexandra Solomon, clinical psychologist and host of the MasterClass “In Practice” series on dealing with anxiety.

Recruiters who hire celebrity assistants explain how they pick engaged employees
Celebrity assistants have a demanding job. The role requires being on call outside of normal working hours, working proactively to anticipate the needs of their boss, and protecting their boss’s schedule and privacy. It takes someone who is engaged, professional, and a team player—and searching for the right person to fill the role takes skill.
The surprising reason you feel ‘meh’ about work
How’s work? If you feel like answering “meh,” you’re not alone. Gallup’s latest workplace survey found that employee engagement has slumped to a 10-year low. It might not be the work itself, though. You might want to take a closer look at your boss, says Dr. Katina Sawyer, coauthor of Leading for Wellness: How to Create a Team Culture Where Everyone Thrives.

How to tell the difference between anxiety and intuition
“Trust is belief without proof,” she says. “Intuition provides proof; it does not require belief to be present and useful. I am wary when I hear people say, ‘I believe in intuition.’ That is like saying, ‘I believe in gravity.’ Intuition simply is. If you refine and document its action, you quickly discover that you can rely on it. But when you ‘magicalize’ it with belief, you remove its burden of proof, thus rendering it less useful.” Day recommends recording your feelings of intuition.

Ever get a feeling that something isn’t right? An internal voice that is trying to tell you something? It could be your intuition bubbling up. Or maybe it’s anxiety. Or both. Learning to tell the difference between anxiety and intuition can help you determine if that feeling is something you should listen to or address in another way, but it’s easy to confuse the two. “People have become disconnected from their emotions, beliefs, and self-confidence,” says intuitive life coach Tammy Adams.
