The Virginia Tech Chapter of the American Fisheries Society has hosted the Annual Mudbass Classic each spring since 1983. Here we tell the story of how the Mudbass Classic became popular, provide guidance for others wishing to host a similar event, and conclude with important lessons learned. The Duck Pond on the edge of campus is popular for picnickers, joggers, geese, ducks, and turtles. It is not a typical venue for a major fishing tournament. This article is protected by copyright.
