Salinization and sedimentation drive contrasting assembly mechanisms of planktonic and sediment‐bound bacterial communities in agricultural streams
2.9.2 Threshold indicator taxa analysis (TITAN) We used threshold indicator taxa analysis (TITAN) (Baker & King, 2010) to identify individual ASV and community responses to different environmental gradients represented by our field sites. TITAN combines Dufrene and Legendre's (1997) indicator species analysis (IndVal) and non-parametric breakpoint analysis to identify the region along environmental gradients with the highest probability of inducing single-taxa responses.
Increasing Freshwater Salinity Impacts Aerosolized Bacteria
Increases in the salt concentration of freshwater result in detrimental impacts on water quality and ecosystem biodiversity. Biodiversity effects include freshwater microbiota, as increasing salinity can induce shifts in the structure of native freshwater bacterial communities, which could disturb their role in mediating basal ecosystem services. Moreover, salinity affects the wave breaking and bubble-bursting mechanisms via which water-to-air dispersal of bacteria occurs.
Salt Dilution and Flushing Dynamics of an Impaired Agricultural-Urban Stream

Synopsis The magnitude and pattern of specific conductance during high-flow events in a stream draining an agricultural−urban landscape were variable but related to winter road brining.
