Settlement and Landscape Transformations in the Khaybar Oasis From Late Antiquity to the Late Islamic Period
Between 2020 and 2024, the Khaybar Longue Durée Archaeological Project (Khaybar LDAP) documented archaeological remains across a 56 km2 area of the oasis of Khaybar and its surrounding landscapes in northwest Arabia (Figure 1). Situated midway between Medina and the oases of the Wādī al-Qurā (modern al-ʿUlā), Khaybar is the largest settlement in the Ḥarrat Khaybar—a basalt plateau whose aquifer fed the shallow springs that supported date palm agriculture.

The archaeology of Islamic period Khaybar, northwest Saudi Arabia
One of the foci of the Khaybar Longue Durée Archaeological Project, a major oasis in northwest Arabia, characterised by fertile spring-fed wadis, filled with date gardens, cutting through the basalt geology of the volcanic Harrat Khaybar (fig. 1), is the investigation of its Islamic past. Here we look at some methodological issues encountered in our work, as well as providing an overview of some of the main results.

That was the year in which company directors were first permitted to make pension provisions for themselves. However, it took until 1979 before a codified framework for SSASs was laid down by the then Inland Revenue – and that became a market entry point for some providers.
Stephen McPhillips: Time for more Sipp consolidation?
As a keen observer of the financial planning and advice profession, I have watched with interest in recent years the pace of consolidation that’s taking place among financial advice firms. It’s only my perception, and I have no empirical data to back it up, but it appears to me that there is far more advice firm merger-and-acquisition (M&A) activity now than there has been for many years. It makes for a buoyant marketplace for owners of advice businesses.
Dentons: A crossroads for SIPPs?
I think it is fair to say self invested personal pensions (Sipps) have not enjoyed the best of reputations in recent years, both within the industry and amongst the public at large. What was once viewed as a fairly niche product – for a relatively small number of individuals whose investment needs extended beyond a range of life company funds – has become a mainstream pension wrapper that we hear about on national radio and television.
