Syracuse football avoids disaster, improves to 4-0 as Andre Szmyt answers stunning comeback from Virginia
A game that Syracuse could've led by 30 at halftime nearly resulted in a gutting upset at the JMA Wireless Dome on Friday. The Orange did just enoughto prevail with a 22-20 victory against Virginia on the back of placekicker Andre Szmyt. The former Lou Groza Award winner drilled a 30-yard field goal -- his fifth of the game -- to put his team back in front with 1:14 to play.

For Syracuse football, a game full of missed opportunities provided one last chance at pulling out a victory. The Orange got the ball back against Purdue with 51 seconds, down 29-25, near midfield after a strong return by Courtney Jackson. Garrett Shrader, who threw for just 35 yards in the first half, started chucking. And, after a pair of defensive penalties in the secondary and an overturned Damien Alford catch on the sideline, SU found itself at the 25-yard line with 12 seconds left.
After playing like 'Mozart' in opener, Syracuse QB Garrett Shrader shows full arsenal in Week 2 win at UConn
Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers believes his quarterback played like 'Mozart' in a Week 1 blowout of Louisville. Garrett Shrader, though, knew after the season opener that the Orange's revamped passing attack could do so much more. The Cardinals took a balanced approach toward defending SU, he explained, limiting some of the big-play potential that Shrader was hoping to harness from play-action passes. In Week 2, UConn stacked the box.

Dino Babers on 'rare opportunity' to open vs. Louisville, defending Malik Cunningham, in-game decision making
For Syracuse football head coach Dino Babers, there are two sides to the coin that his team has been handed for Week 1 in his seventh year at the helm of the program. The challenge of facing a Power-Five opponent is obvious -- and it doesn't help that Louisville's team speed has flustered the Orange in recent years. Each year, Babers expects rotations to change over the first four weeks of the season. First-year contributors might live up to expectations, or they might falter.
