Steve Boggan's career has spanned four decades, including more than one as The Independent's Chief Reporter, and co-founder of its investigations unit. He also worked as a feature writer at The Times, Guardian and London Evening Standard. He also writes for the Sunday Times Magazine (which can be seen at www.steveboggan.com), and the Daily Mail.
In 2025 his work was shortlisted in the British Journalism Awards (Campaign of the Year), and the Foreign Press Association Awards, for his reporting on modern slavery at McDonald's.
In 2023 and 2024 his work was nominated for awards in the Press Awards, the Society of Editors Awards and the Fetisov International Journalism Awards for his contribution to civil rights reporting.
He has written two books, Follow the Money, and Gold Fever, each of which was chosen as a BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week.
He co-directed the award-winning film Follow the Money, which was released on Amazon Prime in 2019.
He has also taught or lectured in journalism at London City University, Goldsmiths University, and Liverpool John Moores University.
