Steve Buchanan Florida’s Biography

Steve Buchanan stands out as a pragmatic and solution-oriented individual with a rich background in auto mechanics and performance diagnostics. Though he has stepped back from his full-time career in auto mechanics, his enthusiasm for working on and operating mechanical vehicles remains undiminished.

Steve's professional journey includes his role as the producer and host of the popular radio show "Mr. Mechanic." Broadcasting on Omaha's News Radio 1110 KFAB-AM, this show earned the reputation of being the city's longest-running local program. For an hour each week, he adeptly fielded a variety of questions from listeners about car issues, maintenance tips, and repair techniques.

Launching in 1988 and gracing the airwaves every Saturday morning, Buchanan helmed "Mr. Mechanic" for over a quarter of a century. His expertise rarely met a question he couldn't answer. The show occasionally featured two guest hosts from his Service Centers, alongside car expert Dr. Mark Grabow.

With an entrepreneurial spirit, he has successfully established and grown businesses in the fields of fuel, auto mechanics, and convenience stores. His expertise as an auto mechanic and diagnostician is highly regarded. Additionally, he possesses commendable skills as a pilot and boat captain, showcasing his versatility and proficiency in various mechanical disciplines.

In his leisure time, Steve continues to indulge in engine diagnostics and repairs, pursuing them as hobbies. His love for mechanics extends to other areas, too; he takes pleasure in piloting airplanes and driving speed boats, particularly relishing the thrill of high-speed travel, whether it's in the sky or on water. Living beachside complements his lifestyle and interests well.

His roots are in the Midwest; he was born in Sioux City, Iowa, and later settled in Omaha. Post-retirement, he chose South Florida as his residence, where he enjoys the company of family and friends in a serene coastal setting.

Steve Buchanan's contributions extend beyond his professional and personal pursuits. He has been actively involved in various community organizations, particularly those focused on healthcare. While in Omaha, he dedicated time and resources to the local Children's Hospital, a facility offering comprehensive healthcare services. He also supported the Nebraska Humane Society's Omaha branch, an organization committed to animal welfare through education and sanctuary.

In Florida, his philanthropic spirit shines through his support for the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. This esteemed health system, with a history spanning over a century, includes a network of campuses with a medical college, clinics, and a hospital, including one in Jacksonville, Florida.
