Pedestrian Incident
Today at about 6 pm I was riding on Randolph between Wabash ans State and there was a man on the ground right by the curb not moving and two bicycle patrol cops standing over him waiting for an ambulance. Does anyone know what happened? On this stretch of road there are often pedestrians stepping into the bike lane without looking. I would expect them to get collide with cyclists occasionally. Moving, Job Hunting - How Much Is Bike Riding a Factor In Your Choices?
I moved today from D.C. to Bethesda. Shorter commute to work (still bike/metro), quieter (my DC neighborhood was a little too heavy on the party, and I’m saving $$$. Before settling on a location, I wanted to make sure I’d still ride every day and live in a place that doesn’t require a car to enjoy restaurants, grocery shop, and get around. As I’m resting after a long day’s move, I was wondering how many of you consider your bike and rideability into where you live?

Why Do We So Readily Blame the Victim?
We all see distracted drivers riding our bikes. They are everywhere. And yet, when posting (on Facebook) a very disturbing account of a tour bus driver on his phone when he killed two pedestrians in DC, there was the knee-jerk reaction to blame the victims. Accusing them of being on their phones. And screaming in all-caps that we all need to "CALMMMMM down". Clearly, the woman responding to the FB post had not read the article to learn anything about the crash.

Time Change Increases Risk for Cyclists
I loathe the time changing. It always takes a while to adjust. Road safety certainly changes after daylight saving time ends. "Make sure that you are visible." Cyclists should use lights. Perhaps this would be the best time to upgrade to a higher lumen output. Don't blind others on the bike path and roads. Point it slightly downwards towards the pavement and your brighter headlight will still be visible for others to see you. Also, try to get as reflective as possible.
Chicago to Madison
It has been quite a few years since the discussion on routes has been posted. I am looking for a route on paved roads or trails from Chicago to Madison to spread out over 2-3 days. Gravel might be okay depending on how rough it is. One bike on the ride has 23 mm tires without enough clearance to go much wider. Any suggestions? Tags: ▶ Reply to This
