Fight or Flight? Understanding Different Stakeholder Responses to Conservation Conflicts
Connections or conflict? A social and economic analysis of the interconnections between the professional fishing industry, recreational fishing and marine tourism in coastal communities in NSW, Australia
Individuals and Multilevel Management: A Study of the Perceived Adaptive Capacity of the Goose Management System among Farmers in Sweden
Introduction Since the 1930s some species of wild geese, for example, the graylag goose (Anser anser) and barnacle goose (Branta leucopsis) have increased dramatically in Europe. Underlying these changes are hunting regulations, conservation efforts, and changed agricultural practices (Fox and Madsen 2017).

European bird declines: Do we need to rethink approaches to the management of abundant generalist predators?
Abstract Bird species are declining across Europe. Current European policy, that is, the Birds and Habitats Directives, focus on habitat management as a way of halting the declines. This paper explores the role of predation in causing bird population declines and asks if we need to reconsider our approach to the management of generalist predators.
Understanding diverse approaches to predator management among gamekeepers in England
Abstract Disagreements and disputes over the management of predatory animals are a frequent feature of conservation conflicts. In the UK, there are long‐standing conflicts surrounding legal and illegal killing of predators as part of management fostering game species as quarry for sport shooting. Despite the central role of gamekeepers as stakeholders and actors in this predominant form of predator management, little direct attention has been paid to their perspectives and motivations.
Breeding ground correlates of the distribution and decline of the Common Cuckoo Cuculus canorus at two spatial scales
Many migratory bird species are undergoing population declines as a result of potentially multiple, interacting mechanisms. Understanding the environmental associations of spatial variation in population change can help tease out the likely mechanisms involved. Common Cuckoo Cuculus canorus populations have declined by 69% in England but increased by 33% in Scotland. The declines have mainly occurred in lowland agricultural landscapes, but their mechanisms are unknown.
Breeding ground correlates of the distribution and decline of the Common Cuckoo Cuculus canorus at two spatial scales
H1. At a national scale, Cuckoos’ habitat associations have changed over the period of population decline (1995–2010), with the probability of detecting Cuckoos becoming more positively associated with suitable semi‐natural habitats and the hosts which characterize those habitats (Reed Warbler and Meadow Pipit) and less positively (or negatively) associated with intensively managed agricultural habitats and the hosts which most characterize these habitats (Dunnock).
Spatial and temporal associations between recovering populations of common raven Corvus corax and British upland wader populations
In this study, we use the RUBS data to examine spatial and temporal associations between populations and trends in ravens and waders. Spatially, using data from the repeat surveys, we explore whether wader abundance correlates negatively with raven abundance. Temporally, we examine whether the changes in the abundance of any wader species are negatively associated with either raven abundance in the repeat survey or the change in raven abundance between the two survey periods on a plot.
