I’ve heard the phrase ‘plant breeding is more an art than a science.’ Respectfully, I disagree. It’s not easy, but with the right algorithms, one can take the mystery out of plant breeding to turn the ‘art’ into a near-exact science. Think about it like this, when a manufacturer creates a new car they start with a concept, then they find all the right pieces and parts, and finally they put it together. The mechanic doesn’t wander through the shop blindly grabbing parts in the hope they’ll all jive.
