Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

Reporting on the online brokerage industry for Finance Magnates (then Forex Magnates).

Have you ever used a typewriter?

Yes, the old-fashioned heavy metal ones, had one at home in my earlier years.

How is social media changing news?

There are many facets of how social is changing how news is framed, generated, sourced, curated, shared, and interacted with.

What does it mean to be a journalist?

While it can mean different things to different people, I think it means to relay the context of something with your own unique content.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

Labtop: MacBook Pro 15 in. Retina (mid 2014 model) with 2.5Ghz Intel Core. Mobile: Galaxy S7 edge with a 200gb memory card.

What's your favorite social network?

Lately, it has been Twitter, after I had taken a few year hiatus, although LinkedIn is probably my most prized.

Why did you become a journalist?

It was a natural progression after nearly 17 years in sales and extensive related writing and became a new found passion.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

Know thyself (it's not really my advice). Focus on the goal and essence of the story, and the content will create itself.

When's the best time to pitch you?

Probably at a networking event, or in a well written and brief email that is sent at the right time including follow-ups.

What's your favorite drink?

Water, probably the one drink we take most for granted.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

I like to run and do other outdoor activities and exercise to help counter-balance long hours behind a computer screen.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I can't pinpoint a favorite publication, as good reads can be found across numerous sources. Although, I like aggregators to find content.
