A Message from Federation | Moving Forward to the Election
Let us be reminded of who we are: a people rooted in faith, resilience, responsibility and hope. In Michigan, we have experienced political discourse that has turned issues of Jewish safety and Jewish self-determination in Israel into political weapons rooted in vitriol, distortion and falsehoods. As we look toward November and our collective future, we continue to reject this disturbing rhetoric, particularly when it is echoed or tolerated by those in office and those seeking to hold office.

From Federation | High Holiday Greetings
Rosh Hashanah teaches us that even in times of uncertainty, we have the power to renew ourselves and to shape the future. If there is one lesson we’ve learned this past year, it is that none of us are ever truly alone. The beauty of Jewish life — especially here in Detroit — is that we are bound together by our traditions, our shared values and our unshakable sense of responsibility to each other. This truth has carried us through an extraordinarily difficult chapter in our history.
Detroit Jewish Federation Leaders Condemn Antisemitism, Urge Community Vigilance and Unity
Let our lives reflect the beauty, strength and enduring spirit of our people. We are grieving and we are outraged. Once again, our community has been reminded of the dangerous reality of rising antisemitism. On June 1, a peaceful pro-Israel gathering in Boulder, Colorado — where participants were walking in support of the hostages in Gaza — was violently attacked by an assailant wielding Molotov cocktails. Fifteen individuals were wounded, including a Holocaust survivor.
From the Jewish Federation of Detroit: A Time of Mourning and Outrage
This has been an extraordinarily painful week for the people of Israel and for Jews around the world. Recently, we have felt moments of relief and joy as precious lives returned home to their loved ones. But the past several days have been marked by both sorrow and outrage, as we confront heartbreaking losses and the ongoing suffering of those still waiting to come home after more than 500 days of brutal captivity in Gaza.
A Message from Federation
Let us continue to support one another and draw inspiration from the resilience of our community and the Jewish people. Just a few days ago, we greeted news of the potential release of the hostages in Gaza with cautious optimism. Sunday we watched with tremendous relief and gratitude as three young women crossed into Israel. After 471 days of captivity in Gaza, Emily Damari, Romi Gonen, and Doron Steinbrecher are finally free.
A Letter From Federation: Vandalism at the Federation Building
It is a stark reminder of the rising tide of hate affecting the Jewish people, here and around the world. On Monday morning, the Jewish Federation of Detroit Building in Bloomfield Township was vandalized with anti-Israel and antisemitic graffiti. There will be more coverage of this event on the thejewishnews.com and in next week’s JN.

More than 10 months have passed since Oct. 7, the most devastating and tragic date in Israel’s 75-year history. Since then, Jewish communities worldwide have responded with a historic outpouring of solidarity and support. High Holiday Greetings | Meeting Our Jewish Community’s Challenges
Rosh Hashanah offers a precious opportunity to reflect on the year we’ve lived, a chance to recognize and give sincere thanks for the blessings we’ve received. The new year is also a moment to look honestly at our failures and to ask ourselves how we might do better in the future. It’s a time to ask: Who among us is struggling? Who has been forgotten or left out? How can we better fulfill our sacred responsibility to care for one another?

As I stood at the back of our annual Women’s Philanthropy Signature Event, listening to the actor Jennifer Grey reflect on her experiences to a room full of engaged Jewish women, my phone buzzed.
Statement From Federation: Terror in Israel | Detroit Jewish News
These attacks, which came in the wake of rising tensions in Israel, are horrifying and despicable acts of terror. Recent days have seen a wave of deadly terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians. On Friday, Jan. 27, seven Jews were murdered, and others were wounded following Shabbat services in a Jerusalem neighborhood. Shortly after, a father and son were shot on their way home from their synagogue near the Old City.

Here for Good: A Message from the Jewish Federation — Detroit Jewish News
If we have learned anything from the experience of the pandemic, it is that together, as a unified community, we can weather any crisis. Ayear ago, we celebrated Rosh Hashanah in the midst of the global pandemic. For the first time, our seders were limited to immediate family members and we worshiped at services streamed on the internet. Today, as we once again prepare for the High Holidays, we can be grateful that many aspects of our normal lives have returned.
