Articles by Stewart Ruch
Stewart Ruch writes to his diocese about forthcoming Washington Post articles on the Wood presentment and his trial
Customarily, my pastoral letters to our diocese pertain to matters within our diocesan work. But some recent news coverage regarding a provincial (ACNA) matter is one of great seriousness, and one that I want to address with you clearly and directly. Understandably, many emotions and concerns can arise when we hear news of this magnitude.
Bishop Ruch writes: Trial conclusions and next steps
Yesterday the Province sent this letter with an update from the Ecclesiastal Trial Court. The trial concluded on Monday, October 13, and the Court is now in a period of deliberation. It will issue a final written Order within 60 days, on or before December 16. After waiting for over four years, diocesan witnesses and I had the opportunity to provide perspective on some of the serious concerns brought to our attention over the last several years.
Bishop Ruch writes his diocese on the status of his trial
Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Upper Midwest, You may have seen this update from the Ecclesiastical Trial Court announcing the delay of the trial until early October. Many of you have reached out to me about this. Though it has been an intense month for everyone involved, I can reassure you that Katherine and I have both known the closeness of the Lord in these days. Understandably, many of you have questions about the trial.
Let God Guide Your Sex Life
Introduction (Read 1 Thess. 4:3-8) For many people—especially those of the younger generations—it’s passages like this that are a real hurdle for them in accepting Christianity as true. The Bible is just so “out of touch” with the reality of the world that we live in today. There are at least a couple of reasons for that.
Bishop Ruch responds to news of his presentment for trial
Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Upper Midwest Diocese, On Monday, the ACNA Provincial Office announced that a Board of Inquiry found reasonable grounds to take me to an ecclesiastical trial for charges based on a Presentment by three bishops submitted in January. You can read the Province’s announcement here. An ecclesiastical trial will provide an opportunity for all the evidence to be considered.
Bishop Stewart Ruch responds to notice of his ecclesiastical trial
Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Upper Midwest Diocese, Today the ACNA Provincial Office announced that a Board of Inquiry found reasonable grounds to take me to an ecclesiastical trial. The charges are based on a presentment circulated by an attendee of one of our diocesan churches, which some of you received in your inbox a few months ago. You can read the Province’s announcement here and the Board of Inquiry’s declaration here.
Your Questions about the Bible: Homosexuality
The story behind the sermon (by Rick McKinley) I hesitate using this sermon as the ultimate model for how to preach on this topic. I suppose it is because the topic of homosexuality is such a hot button issue in the church and in our culture, and no one sermon can say all that is needed or should be said on this topic.
Preaching that Challenges Men Without Maligning Them
Probably one of the top five Ruch family favorite films would be a really beautiful film made several years ago called The Nativity. As a matter of fact, it is part of our Christmas traditions which begin on the eve of the eve of Christmas Eve. What’s happened is we have so many we have to back them up to get ready to get everything done in time for Christmas Day. So on the eve of the eve of Christmas Eve, we almost always watch The Nativity together.
Holy Week Personality Type
Everyone engages with Holy Week—the week leading up to the celebration of Jesus' resurrection—in different ways. Some celebrate. Others contemplate. Some like it loud and laudable, others need things barely audible. And the beauty of Holy Week is that with so many different services, there are opportunities for all of these expressions of worship.
