Coach - Clarkson's record vs Chris Scott
StillAtLarge Brownlow Medallist Veteran Wordler 10k Posts #1 Just wondering if there's been another coaching matchup in the modern era where one combatant has had his arse handed to him more than Clarkson v Chris Scott PLAYERCARDSTART Chris Scott Age 49 Ht 182cm Wt 89kg Pos. MRP / Trib. - Maynard pushes vulnerable player (Murphy Reid) into interchange
I couldn't believe Maynard was the one who ended up with the free kick. Yes I know it was for deliberate but his action was after that so should have been reversed.
Absurdity of the 'Country' game
#4 In a round where the afl has a match in Shanghai they inexplicably schedule Sheedy's brain fart at the mcg. How the hell can a country themed game be played in the most populous city in the state? Would it be so hard to fixture the country game in a rural town? With all the stuff on outside the ground the idea is “bring the country to the city”, to showcase things a bit like the Royal Show. It makes a bit of sense from that point of view.
Why has the Anzac Day game slowly morphed into a twilight fixture?
StillAtLarge Brownlow Medallist Wordler 10k Posts Veteran #1 It's ridiculous that this fixture doesn't kick off at 2pm. It's a glorious day in Melbourne yet close to half of this game will be played under artificial light. It's also worth mentioning that a large number of people (many of them elderly) who've been up early for the dawn service are forced to wait around needlessly for another hour just so a greedy tv network can run straight into their 6pm news bulletin. The AFL is a disgrace.
Garry Ayres award (2024)
To me, this is one of the most prestigious awards in the AFL. Best player of the finals as voted by the coaches. Previous winners include Dustin Martin (3 times), Dangerfield, Sam Walsh , Josh Kennedy (Swans) and Steele Sidebottom Who is most likely to elevate their game in September from your club and an opposition team?I'll kick it off with Jack Scrimshaw and Errol Gulden...
News - Smart Football
#2 Revealed on Fox last night - AFLW are trialling a ‘smart’ footy, which can detect and transpond where it is, aiding ootf and scoring decisions. Of course it won’t take long before it realises it’s smarter than all the players, coaches and managers in both leagues and will seek a position on the AFL Executive… AFL Executives
News - Andrew Dillon appointed new AFL chief executive
#5 For all the crap Gil copped he'd actually done pretty amazingly during his tenure. Leading the game through COVID, AFLW, record broadcast deals, Tasmania, Gather Round, and the game being in the best shape financially than it's ever been. He'd always been less robotic compared to previous CEOs and wasn't afraid to admit his mistakes ( AFLX). Cheers Gil, and good luck. Here's hoping Andrew goes just as well.
Ken Hinkley has a better win % than Damien Hardwick
Win/loss percentage can be a misleading measure of success. Chris Scott / Alan Joyce / Buckley take over superstar lists and successful teams …. Hardwick, Clarkson take over basket cases. So it would be interesting to look at overall win/loss from a coach’s 3rd year and beyond in each of their coaching stints.
BT commentating
#5 I reckon he had a stroke or something a couple years back, he's gone from an annoying caller fixated on irrelevant minutiae to downright senile in the blink of an eye. Doesn't know the players' names, slurs his words and basically seems to have little grasp of what's happening on the field.
Who is the best mark of the ball ever?
#7 Damn, just checked the numbers and Stewart Leowe did 71 contested marks in 18 games (3.94 per game) in 2000. Beast. He was also well past his prime in 2000. Wonder if they have numbers from the mid 90s? I reckon he would have been getting close to 5 per game at one stage
