The Australian National Maritime Museum
Darling Harbour is, when you think about it, a fitting spot to house the Australian National Maritime Museum - just around the corner from Sydney Cove, the colony's first settlement, and on the site of a former major seaport and transport hub. The Australian National Maritime Museum is a huge indoor/outdoor exhibition of Australian maritime history located at Darling Harbour and readily accessible from anywhere in the Harbour City.
10 Ways to Explore Pittwater
You could be dreaming of the French Riviera, the Caribbean, or a Mediterranean cruise, but a much cheaper option and closer to home is the serene and scenic Pittwater - no passport required. This beautiful waterway about 40kms north of the CBD was named in 1788 after William Pitt, the then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. It is, technically, a drowned valley estuary and collides with the Pacific Ocean at Palm Beach, where Barrenjoey Lighthouse stands sentinel.
11 Top Coffee Shops with a View to Please in Sydney
Two cappuccino, no sugar, and views please. I want to ogle the outlook, soak up the scene, and be entranced by the surrounding natural beauty. So my photographs show the view from my favourite coffee shops on Sydney's northern peninsula. None have a busy road or carpark between my seat and the object of my affection; I'm just a hop, skip and jump from a lake, the ocean, or beautiful Pittwater. All are wheelchair accessible and all have indoor and outdoor seating.
Top School Holiday Activities on the Northern Beaches
The Beach, courtesy Coastal Environment Centre Narrabeen 'Go outside and play' my mother used to always say in response to our whining 'what's there to do?' Growing up in the country must've been a real challenge for her, the long summer holidays must've seemed like an eternity! We had a creek nearby so catching an occasional catfish was a treat; hopscotch on the back cement was my favourite; or helping her in the kitchen when she cooked the family's cakes and biscuits for the week always...
Danks Street Produce Merchants
At No. 3 Danks Street, Waterloo, a new shopping experience has recently opened. Open 7 days, Danks Street Produce Merchants is a grand market place, replicating the European-style of fresh food artisans, bakers, fish mongers, butcher and deli meats, plus dining all under one roof. As I strolled past recently looking for somewhere for lunch, I was drawn in by the bunches of fresh flowers.
Clark Park, Lavender Bay & Wendy's Garden
Lavender Bay is sandwiched between Milsons Point and McMahons Point on the north-western side of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Recently I discovered Clark Park, a picturesque and restful green space on the corner of Harbourview Crescent and Lavender Street. It's about 10 minutes walk from North Sydney Railway Station and 5 minutes from Milsons Point Wharf. The park is filled with towering gums, a sweeping lawn and bench seats that face the harbour.
Sweet Addiction - The Botanic Story of Chocolate
This year, The Royal Botanic Gardens in Sydney celebrates its 200th year. It covers 30 hectares, has 8,900 plant species, 3,964 trees and is home to Australia's oldest street trees - 3 Eucalyptus robusta planted in 1816 along Mrs Macquaries Road. one of the 3,964 trees in the Botanic Gardens But I'm here to investigate something dear to every girl's heart, "The Botanic Story of Chocolate". Housed in The Calyx, the Garden's newest and grooviest looking attraction, the story takes you on a journey.
McCarrs Creek Reserve
McCarrs Creek Reserve is a spacious reserve located on Sydney's northern beaches, with Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on the opposite side. A drive to McCarrs Creek is along the picturesque Pittwater, with stunning views of the water, cafes and marinas. The reserve is a quiet place and offers an ideal location to relax on a lazy Sunday. There are no cafes, so bring food, and drinks and for those wishing to cook lunch wood BBQs are available.
