Interview

What was your first job as a journalist?

I didn’t begin in a traditional newsroom role. My first steps into journalism-style work came through writing researched, source-verified articles for digital platforms. Over time, I moved toward creating structured, factual content that reflects many of the same responsibilities as journalism—clarity, accuracy, and careful reference checking. That early experience taught me the discipline of writing with intention and accountability.

Who's your favorite fictional journalist?

One fictional journalist I’ve always appreciated is Clark Kent from the Superman stories. Beyond the superhero aspect, his character reflects the classic ideals of journalism—curiosity, integrity, and using information responsibly. It’s a simple reminder that good reporting starts with strong values.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

One hashtag that still makes me smile is #SlowNewsDay — usually used when journalists are covering unusually minor stories with full seriousness. It’s a light, harmless reminder that not every headline has to be dramatic.

What tools and software do you use to do your job?

I rely on a mix of writing, research, and organizational tools. For drafting and structuring content, I use Google Docs and Notion. For research and verification, I depend on trusted Islamic sources, digital libraries, and scholarly references. I also use basic design and productivity tools when needed to organize information and prepare clean, readable content.

What's your favorite social network?

I appreciate platforms that encourage thoughtful conversations and clear information-sharing. LinkedIn is the one I use most consistently because it allows me to follow writers, educators, and researchers while sharing structured content in a professional environment.

Who do you wish followed you?

I would appreciate being followed by writers, educators, and scholars who value clarity, authenticity, and thoughtful communication. Connecting with people who share a commitment to accurate, well-sourced information always leads to better work and deeper conversations.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

One of the projects I’m most proud of is developing a structured series on authentic Islamic duas and their practical relevance in modern life. Instead of simply listing supplications, I focus on presenting each dua with its Arabic text, transliteration, translation, context, and spiritual meaning. This approach has helped readers understand not just the words, but the purpose and depth behind them. Working on this series has been meaningful because it bridges classical Islamic sources with clear, accessible writing that benefits people in moments of need—whether they’re facing stress, seeking guidance, or strengthening their daily worship.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I enjoy reading publications that prioritize accuracy, clarity, and thoughtful long-form writing. Outlets like BBC Future, National Geographic, and The Conversation often present well-researched pieces that explore ideas in a calm, informative way. I appreciate content that teaches something meaningful and encourages deeper understanding.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

A common misperception is that writing about faith-based topics is purely devotional or opinion-driven. In reality, it involves careful research, verification of sources, and presenting information with clarity and accuracy. Much of the work is about making complex material understandable for a wide audience, while staying true to established references. It requires the same level of discipline and responsibility as any other factual subject.
