Breaking the Ring and Closing the Loop: New Bicyclic Monomers for Sustainable Polymers
Abstract Designing polymers that combine high performance with efficient chemical recycling is essential for building a circular materials system. To this end, lactone-based polyesters are attractive candidates, yet traditional monocyclic lactones offer limited ring strain and narrow thermodynamic windows. As a result, balancing polymer stability with effective depolymerization poses a challenge in the field.
Ethanol Extract of Piper longum L., a Culinary Spice, Suppresses Osteoclastogenesis and Protects Against Ovariectomy-Induced Bone Loss
1 Introduction Osteoclast formation and activation are tightly regulated by receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa ligand (RANKL) signaling through its receptor RANK (Feng et al. 2019). The binding of RANKL to RANK on osteoclast precursor cells activates intracellular signaling cascades involving TNF receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) and key transcription factors, including c-Fos and nuclear factor of activated T cells cytoplasmic 1 (NFATc1).

Enantioselective Contrathermodynamic Olefin Isomerization Click to copy article link Article link copied!
Catalytic asymmetric olefin isomerization is a powerful strategy for constructing allylic stereocenters from simple alkene starting materials. (1) In a seminal report from 1982, Noyori and co-workers reported the enantioselective isomerization of allylamines to access optically active enamines through asymmetric hydride transfer catalyzed by a Rh-BINAP complex.
Riboswitch-controlled lipid conversion enables functional membrane asymmetry in artificial cells
Abstract Dynamic regulation of lipid membrane composition is fundamental to living cells; however, synthetic analogs capable of such regulation remain scarce. Here, we present an artificial cell platform in which riboswitch-mediated expression of phospholipase D (PLD) enables stimulus-responsive lipid remodeling within lipid vesicles.
Rapid and Stereoselective Ring‐Opening Polymerization of rac‐Lactide Enabled by a Chiral Cyclopropenimine-Thiourea Catalyst
1 Introduction Polylactide (PLA) accounted for 31% of the global bioplastic production capacity as of 2023, underscoring its significance as a material derived from bio-based sources [1, 2]. Renowned for its sustainability, biocompatibility, and biodegradability, the microstructure of PLA significantly influences its physicochemical and mechanical properties [3].
Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer advises AGL Energy on dual wind energy PPAs with Tilt Renewables
Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer is pleased to have advised AGL Energy (AGL) on two long term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Tilt Renewables (Tilt). These large scale PPAs support the development of two major wind farms: the Palmer Wind Farm in South Australia and the Waddi Wind Farm in Western Australia. Under the Palmer PPA, AGL secures 45% of the expected 274 MW output. Under the Waddi PPA, AGL will offtake 100% of the project's expected 105 MW output.

Ruling Rebel Parties and Accountability for Wartime Sexual Violence
Abstract Why do some post-conflict governments adopt accountability for wartime sexual violence while others do not? In this paper, we focus on how the wartime governance practices of rebel parties influence their postwar behavior. We argue that rebel parties in power are more likely than non-rebel parties to support postwar accountability for wartime sexual violence in order to restore their reputation and rebrand the party.
Radical approaches for C(sp3)-N bond cleavage in deaminative transformations
Radical approaches for C(sp3)–N bond cleavage in deaminative transformations Amines are versatile and widely available functional groups that serve as key building blocks in organic synthesis, particularly in pharmaceutical development. The deaminative functionalization of amines, where the C–N bond of amine is cleaved to function as a carbon source of the reaction, could be very useful for building the carbon framework of organic molecules.
A Two-Stage, Self-Pressure-Controlled Smart Manhole System with Motor-Driven and Lifting Mechanisms for Enhanced Flood Disaster Preparedness
1. Introduction In recent years, extreme rainfall events resulting from abnormal weather patterns have become more frequent, causing significant damage nationwide, including river flooding and inundation in low-lying areas. Although heavy rainfall is typically addressed through advisories or warnings, approximately 80% of actual damage occurs during these extreme downpours.

Dolichos Lablab Linné Inhibits Bone Density Loss and Promotes Bone Union in Senile Osteoporosis through Osteogenesis
1. Introduction Osteoporosis, a significant health risk characterized by low bone mass and increased fracture susceptibility, burdens society with the occurrence of osteoporotic fractures []. As populations age, osteoporosis becomes an increasingly critical concern. This condition develops due to the imbalance between bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming osteoblasts, disrupting normal bone metabolism [].
Healable Anti-Corrosive and Wear-Resistant Silicone-Oil-Impregnated Porous Oxide Layer of Aluminum Alloy by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation
1. Introduction Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is a surface treatment technology that forms a very stable porous oxide film on base metals using a discharge phenomenon in the electrolyte [1]. A high voltage induces a spark or arc plasma discharge, creating a local high-temperature spot in the electrolyte, enabling oxidation of the metal and the rapid melting and solidification of the oxides [2,3,4].

Free Biomicrofluidics 16, 061101 (2022); https://doi.org/10.1063/5.0131733 Encoded microparticles have great potential in small-volume multiplexed assays. It is important to link the micro-level assays to the macro-level by indexing and manipulating the microparticles to enhance their versatility. There are technologies to actively manipulate the encoded microparticles, but none is capable of directly manipulating the encoded microparticles with homogeneous physical properties.
Rising Backlash Against Gender Equality in South Korea Undermines Stability
The Koreas | Society | East Asia South Korea’s U-turn on the value of gender equality is especially concerning in light of copious research finding that gender inequality undermines national security. Direct 2D-to-3D transformation of pen drawings
Abstract Pen drawing is a method that allows simple, inexpensive, and intuitive two-dimensional (2D) fabrication. To integrate such advantages of pen drawing in fabricating 3D objects, we developed a 3D fabrication technology that can directly transform pen-drawn 2D precursors into 3D geometries. 2D-to-3D transformation of pen drawings is facilitated by surface tension–driven capillary peeling and floating of dried ink film when the drawing is dipped into an aqueous monomer solution.
New digital safety net or just more ‘friendfunding’? Institutional analysis of medical crowdfunding in the United States
Introduction Charitable crowdfunding is an increasingly popular way of financing social services such as healthcare, education, and housing assistance. GoFundMe, the largest crowdfunding platform designed for charitable and personal causes, has raised more than $5 billion since it was launched in 2010. The largest category on the platform is medical crowdfunding: approximately a third of all funds raised on the platform have been for medical costs.

A Rh(III)-Catalyzed Formal [4+1] Approach to Pyrrolidines from Unactivated Terminal Alkenes and Nitrene Sources
We have developed a formal [4+1] approach to pyrrolidines from readily available unactivated terminal alkenes as 4-carbon partners. The reaction provides a rapid construction of various pyrrolidine containing structures, especially for the diastereoselective synthesis of spiro-pyrrolidines. Mechanistic investigation suggests a Rh(III)-catalyzed intermolecular aziridination of the alkene and subsequent acid-promoted ring expansion for the pyrrolidine formation.
