ABSTRACT Despite the rapid growth of running clubs, there is limited understanding of the psychological factors that enhance participants’ commitment to exercise. Therefore, this study investigated the drivers of exercise commitment among running club participants using self-determination theory. Specifically, we examined relationships among exercise goal contents, basic psychological needs satisfaction, behavioural regulation, and exercise commitment.
