Surajdeen Afolabi has worked in the oil and gas industry for several years. He is an accomplished oil and gas professional of over three decades, with experience in the upstream and downstream sectors. Afolabi is an expert in procurement and contracting.
In the past, Afolabi headed the research center for science and technology at the NNPC. As well as this, he served as the company's Group General Manager, Research and Development (R&D). He served as Nigeria's Group General Manager of all LNG investment venues (NLNG, Brass, OKLNG, etc.). Not only is he an excellent reformer, he is also an excellent motivator. Previously, he worked for Shell Petroleum Development Company as a senior advisor for supply chain.
He earned a Master's degree in Marine Transportation from Maritime College at the State University of New York. The University of Port Harcourt awarded him a PhD in Regional Development and Environmental Science. Having successfully implemented change initiatives, he has saved multimillions of dollars. The Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) elected him as the first African representative. After serving on the Council and Board, he was appointed Vice President and Global President in 2008. This was the first time a non-European served as president of the world's largest supply chain association.
Afolabi attended Harvard, Columbia, Wharton, and Cranfield during his career. When he was a member of Congress, he was a key figure in introducing the Public Procurement Act. Also, Afolabi provided supervision and facilitation of academic research at the University of Fort Hare.
Additionally, Afolabi has worked in oil and gas, strategic supply chain management, commercial leadership, and arbitration at the Malaysian University of Science and Technology in Lagos and Abuja. Furthermore, he offers investment advisory services and cutting-edge capital markets and forex consulting.
Surajdeen Afolabi has consistently demonstrated impressive abilities in terms of professional and social development. During Nigeria's 50th independence anniversary in 2010, he hosted a number of national and international dignitaries at the IBB International Golf & Country Club, Abuja. Afolabi's services are regularly used by several management development programs.
Surajdeen Afolabi has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award in Supply Chain Excellence. Besides being an avid golfer, Bola Afolabi is also a published author. The Nigeria Institute of Chartered Arbitrators has elected him a Fellow.
