What does it mean to be a journalist?
I research and write as an objective, diligent, and independent thinker. My goal is to present facts to help readers learn.

Why did you become a journalist?
Journalism is a great fit for me for two reasons. I am intellectually curious. I want to empower people with objective information.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
I was second-place winner of an essay contest sponsored by the NFL. I edited my college yearbook. I took H.S. AP English.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
I am proud of all of my articles, books, and presentations. I strive to do the best job possible.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Learn how to research. Verify what people say. Stay objective. Write clearly. Explain why the topic is important to the reader.
When's the best time to pitch you?
I prefer being pitched in the evening or late afternoon unless earlier times are crucial to an editor.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
I enjoy practicing yoga, playing Scrabble with my family, and taking long walks.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
Anything that combines great writing with interesting knowledge
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
Too many business writers assume their readers understand technical terms and concepts.
