Suzy Bell’s Biography

Suzy Bell is an Eco-Optimist, Nature Nerd activist and Environmental Journalist. She has a Masters degree in Creative Writing from University of Cape Town (UCT) South Africa (2010), a Journalism degree, majoring in Environmental Journalism from Durban University of Technology (DUT) and recently completed her Screenwriting studies at University of California Los Angeles, working on Cowtopia, a satirical Eco-Futurist Fantasy.
As a published poet her thematic focus is on Eco-Futurism and Cli-Fi poetry about extinction, climate change and symbiosis.
She is based in Miami, Florida, to explore the neotropical realm and network with key environmental organizations to write about local environmental issues.
Suzy is a highly experienced columnist, (12 years for The Cape Times), an investigative journalist (Mail & Guardian) and Editor (Independent on Saturday and Fresh Living Magazine) and has worked for all the major media publications in South Africa and UK (British Airways Travel magazine).
Suzy is a winner of “New Media Award for Excellence in Advertising creative copywriting” for Environmental storytelling for the prestigious New York “One Show Interactive Award” for creative contribution on Singita Private Game Reserve website produced by award-winning agency, www.MisterWalker.net.
As a volunteer, Suzy has a background in environmental activism since she was 18 years of age with EarthLife Africa.
She has worked as a human rights and cultural activist in the South African community for 15 years.
She is founder of Red Eye Arts at the Durban Art Gallery that set a new Arts model for the youth in arts in South Africa and launched a Digital Arts Festival at DUT (Durban University of technology).
She is founder of African Artists Unite as One and the Amani Arts Festival, Khayelitsha, Cape Town celebrating cultural diversity. With a team of African journalists she co-founded African Arts Journalists Network and served on the Exco of Arterial Arts Network for two years.
