Disney's The Lion King: Simba's Mighty Adventure
Play along as Simba and watch him grow from the fearless cub into the king of the jungle. This game spans across both of Disney's movies - 'The Lion King' and its sequel 'Simba's Pride'. Have Simba run around jumping, rolling, pouncing and roaring while collecting pickups and meeting various other familiar characters from the movie(s), in his now 3D world.
Golden Axe II (1991)
The Good The first Golden Axe game found well-deserved success both as a coin-op, arcade game and as a Genesis (or Mega Drive) home console port. One successful video game was probably going to get a sequel -- especially in the early 1990s when Nintendo and Sega were in fierce competition -- and I can certainly appreciate much of the thought process that went into developing Golden Axe II. Golden Axe II keeps the fantasy setting and basic game play mechanics of the first game.
Brutal: Paws of Fury
The Dalai Llama has organised a martial arts contest for animals of all species to prove their skills, and you are competing in it. There are a wide variety of furry creatures to take on, and finally the Dalai Llama himself. Brutal: Paws of Fury is a one-on-one fighting game across a variety of levels, with mostly outdoor terrain. You can choose of the many characters.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Hyperstone Heist
The Good Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The HyperStone Heist marked the first time that the popular cartoon/comic book heroes hashed out their good versus evil battle on the Genesis. I suspect that this was because Konami had the video game rights to do all Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games and initially, they did not make games for Sega. Nintendo had certain policies in place that...
QuackShot starring Donald Duck
The Good QuackShot Starring Donald Duck is part of a Sega 16-bit trilogy of Genesis titles starring Disney characters. QuackShot, like Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion, really looks, sounds and feels like a labor of love. Instead of Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck gets top billing in this game as a world class, adventure explorer. It is nice to see Donald Duck actually get to star in his own video game.
The Adventures of Cookie & Cream
The Good I love this game because it totally changes the way you treat and look at other people. Suddenly your sister, best friend or spouse is your only friend in a harsh world. Working together to overcome the game's obstacles is a thrilling experience, in fact the whole game is refreshing in that it breaks the norm completely. The Bad The VS mode, despite allowing four players to play on two controllers, is very weak.
Guitar Freaks 3rd Mix & DrumMania 2nd Mix
'Guitar Freaks' and 'DrumMania' are basically two separate music games that are now linked together, on a single cd. Basically, you're told how to play your instrument via a scrolling collection of bars. The longer you go without missing a note, the higher your score. Miss too many, and your game ends. At the end of every song, you're given a report card that tallies up your mistakes and gives you a letter grade based on your performance.
Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy
The Good For years I held off buying a PS2, for many different reasons; chief among them being that I already owned a Gamecube and an Xbox, and most of the the time if a game appeared on all three systems it was superior on the Xbox or Cube. However, there was still that cursed "exclusive" game that I wanted to play on the PS2.
Doom 64 (1997) - MobyGames
The Good Back when the Nintendo 64 was still in its infancy, Midway heavily promoted the fact that "Doom 64" was their "big exclusive" for the system. And it was for them. Midway wasn't a stranger to Doom at this point in time. Having released two Playstation versions and a SNES version, the team that worked on those created this version from the ground up. Other than the name and related elements, this was an all new experience rather than a port.
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
The Good Batman looks cool. Zip on everything else. The Bad The length of this game's a joke. It can be completed in under half an hour! Half an hour for a Nintendo 64 game? That's all kinds of pathetic right there, and the cut scenes are just slideshows from the movie it's based on.
The Last Blade 2
aka: , , , The Last Blade 2: Heart of the Samurai The Last Blade 2: Heart of the Samurai is a 2D fighting game which features anime-style characters that fight each other with swords, clubs, and even fishing poles. These characters pull off their special moves with that 'quarter-circle-to-half-circle' and 'double-half-circle' controller motions, reminiscent of Street Fighter.
Tomb Raider: Chronicles
The Good I liked the idea of making a sort of intermission between Lara's latest epic adventure and her next one. This game chronicles some of her most challenging adventures as told by her closest friends (and played by you) while in the Egyptian desert Von Croy searches for answers and for the body of the presumed dead Lara Croft, his arch enemy. This installment is short and fast, and while the formula and the gameplay aren't very original I give the game this: it's not boring.
Scooby-Doo!: Night of 100 Frights
Easter Eggs are unlocked on certain days of the year. January 1st Fireworks in the courtyard. January 9th Hearts on Snack pickups, Daisies on all other pickups. February 2nd Daisies on Snack pickups. February 14th Hearts on Snack pickups. March 17th Fountain is green. Chimneys on emit green smoke. March 22nd Fireworks in the courtyard. May 30th Fireworks in the courtyard. July 4th Fountain and chimneys on house are colored red, white & blue. Fireworks in the courtyard are also red, white & blue.
Sonic 3D Blast (1996)
The Flicky characters are based on an arcade game of the same name. The game was set to be a "safety net" for the Saturn in case of Sonic X-Treme failing to pass the production stages. It did, and so Sonic 3D became the only platformer appearance of the blue hedgehog in Sega's 32-bit console. The bonus stages are different between the three versions. In the Mega Drive version, you travel across a bridge collecting Rings while avoiding spike balls.
James Cameron's Dark Angel
At least more fun than the series. The Good There really isn't much to say about this game on a positive side, except it captures the essence of the series, so if you liked the series (I really can't say I did), you may like this game as well, 'cos voice acting of Max is by Jessica Alba, and her appearance... for however possible for low-budget game... shouldn't cause you too much a problems.
Donkey Kong Country
The Good It's impossible to describe Donkey Kong Country without mentioning the graphics. It's the biggest selling point of the game. Even by today's standards, it's a very pretty game, and it's not hard to forget how mind-numbingly awesome it looked back in the day. From the multi-layered graphics with weather effects to the full character animations, it was the type of game that you took out to impress your friends. Equally on par was the sound and music.
Turbo Out Run (1989)
The Good Considering the awful job US Gold did with the original "Outrun" for the CPC, one did approach its first sequel, "Turbo Outrun", with extreme caution. And while the apprehension was well justified, this entry in the series, which would in turn be followed by "Outrun Europa" turned out a much more satisfying game.
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider - The Prophecy
The Good The exploration of this game is by far its strongest aspect. There is just something fulfilling about running through a level utilising all of Lara Croft's skills (climbing, long jumps and hanging from ledges). Lara's skills are brought to life by the amount of animation put into her character, as her character is a 3d model. The 3d model also helps to make Lara stand out from the background, making sure you don't lose her in the background.
Project Eden (2001) - MobyGames
The Good Let's start with Project Eden's best point - Its graphics. They are superb; definitely the best I have ever seen in a PC game. This game is visually stunning at every point, featuring true reflective surfaces, fog, gas and fire effects, amazing weapon effects, beautiful coloured lighting, and some highly detailed, perfectly animated character models.
Michael Jackson's Moonwalker for Arcade (1990)
is based on the Michael Jackson movie. Mr. Big has kidnapped children and has nasty things in store for them, like drugging them and making them slaves. So it's up to Michael to use his magical powers and dancing talent to try to catch Mr. Big and rescue his little friends.Michael Jackson can jump, throw magical stars, and dance to counter his opponents as he looks for the hidden children.
