T. Edward Vives, born in 1964 in Auburn, Alabama, embarked on his musical journey at age four. His early encounters with music began with piano lessons under Edgar and Dorothy Glyde, sparking a lifelong passion. As he progressed through public school, his musical interests expanded to include trombone performance and music composition, demonstrating a natural affinity for diverse musical disciplines.
Pursuing higher education, he attended Florida State University, earning bachelor's degrees in Composition and Music Education. This period shaped his musical identity as he studied under esteemed composers John Boda and Charles Carter. In addition to composition, he refined his trombone performance skills under William Cramer and John Drew and delved into conducting studies with James Croft. This multifaceted educational experience not only honed his technical skills but also ingrained a deep understanding of the theoretical aspects of music.
His commitment and professional approach led him to further academic pursuits. He completed a Master of Music in Composition and Music Theory and a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Florida.
