Interview

What does it mean to be a journalist?

Being a journalist means using storytelling to inform, uplift, and bring awareness to issues that matter. Through sharing my own experiences as a cancer survivor and patient advocate, I aim to help others feel seen while raising awareness about mesothelioma, survivorship, and the emotional realities of life after diagnosis.

What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?

How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

The story I’m most proud of is sharing my experience being diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma at 21 while five months postpartum. Writing about that moment and the years of survivorship that followed allowed me to turn one of the hardest chapters of my life into something that could encourage and support others facing cancer.

What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?

My advice is to tell the stories that matter, even when they are difficult to share. The most powerful journalism often comes from honesty and lived experience. When you write with empathy and purpose, your words can help people feel seen and understood.

What's your favorite drink?

Ginger ale mixed with pineapple juice.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

When I’m not at my computer, I’m usually spending time with my family, cheering on my kids, or enjoying a quiet moment to reflect.
