App Review: “Orixo”
Many mobile games struggle to land perfectly between relaxing and engaging. Some become too relaxed and don’t offer players enough of a challenge to keep them playing, while others become unnecessarily complicated and difficult and, as a result, turn many casual players away. The puzzle game “Orixo” has managed to hit that mark to near perfection.
Movie Review: “The Ritual”
Although the spookiest time of the year may have passed, that doesn’t mean we can’t revisit less popular gems of the horror genre and also remind ourselves of yet another reason to never leave the hiking trail. “The Ritual” is a 2017 horror/mystery film from the British filmmaker David Bruckner and follows four friends on a hiking trip in Sweden.
Album Review: “Fuzzybrain” by Dayglow
Everyone needs a chance to unwind after a long day, and whether it be by relaxing in bed and staring at the ceiling or going for a drive to nowhere, it can’t hurt the vibe to have some good music playing in the background. Indie pop artist Dayglow’s debut album, “Fuzzybrain” is the perfect blend of cheerful, relaxing and experimental to satisfy any fan of indie music.
App Review: PocketPolls
The fall season of an election year is the most important time to be civically engaged regardless of political affiliation. Many online resources are available for voters to figure out polling locations, registration details, etc; however, if you’re interested in how the election is progressing throughout the country, then PocketPolls may be the app for you.
Brazos Valley African American Museum: Last Call for “The Right to Vote” Exhibit
This year more than ever, election time means everyone’s opinion is whirling through the air faster than the speed of light, whether its on the TV screen or off. But there’s one thing we can all agree on—voting is a big deal, and we all need to make the effort to participate. The Brazos Valley African American Museum reminds us just how important voting is in “The Right to Vote” exhibit, continuing till November 28.
Movie Review: “Coco”
Times may be tough and circumstances may seem grim, but something that you can always count on to get you through tough times is a loving family.
Album Review: “Nectar” by Joji
After an especially draining day, whether it be from work related stress or some kind of heartache, the best remedy is often some relaxing, cathartic music to loosen you up. Japanese artist and former Youtube personality, Joji, produces just the kind of music for such a day in his latest album, “Nectar.” “Nectar” is Joji’s second studio album followed by his debut album, “BALLADS 1,” and is full of what seems to be Joji’s signature style of slow vocals, emotional lyrics, and smooth beats.
App Review: Among Us
The world began lockdown in March of 2020 by obsessing over a game that involved peacefully building a village, farming, fishing, and conversing with the townsfolk.
Six Kittens Rescue: Art for a Cause Benefit
Citizens of the Bryan-College Station area are all about selfless service, community, and supporting local business. For those who take pride in these characteristics, the Art for a Cause benefit hosted by Six Kittens Rescue on November 15 is the perfect blend of all three! Six Kittens Rescue is an adoption organization that is dedicated to reducing the feral cat population in Bryan, Texas, as well as preventing the spread of infectious diseases common in these strays.
Album Review: “Detroit 2” by Big Sean
The state of modern music poses an interesting conundrum: Do we evaluate a new release by the emotions it evokes? Or is it the quality and intelligence of the lyrics and acoustics? For many, the most important factor in listening to music is simply whether or not they can have a good time with friends while this music is playing in the background. When it comes to Big Sean’s newest album, “Detroit 2,” it’s fair to say that this release achieves a good level of success in all of these metrics.
Movie Review: “El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie”
Fans of the infamous tale of high school chemistry teacher turned drug kingpin Walter White have championed the five seasons of the golden-globe winning show “Breaking Bad” as one of the best television series of all time. However many fans felt as if the story elements surrounding an equally as important character felt too ambiguous after the events of the finale.
Movie Review: “A Silent Voice” (2016)
Although released in 2016, Naoko Yamada’s “A Silent Voice” is still a very relevant character study on the long-lasting mental health effects of bullying—not only for the victim, but for the perpetrator as well. “A Silent Voice” is a Japanese animated film streaming on Netflix that primarily follows Ishida, a middle-schooler who leads a carefree life of goofing off in class and playing video games with his friends, that is, until a peculiar new student is transferred into his class.

Movie Review: “Extraction” (2020)
A common recipe for a good action movie is usually one part good director, 2 parts great actor with splashes of charisma and physicality, and a whole lot of great set pieces. Or in other words, the combination of director Sam Hargrave, action star Chris Hemsworth, and producers Mike Larocca, Anthony Russo, and Hemsworth himself.
The Old Post Office: Josh Grider
Whether you’re a novice fan of country music or a veteran of the art, Josh Grider may have something for you, and the chance to figure that out is coming on September 18 at The Old Post Office.
App Review: Penguin Isle
Mobile games can often be full of unnecessary grind and seemingly greedy in-game purchases. Every now and then, a more quiet and slow-paced game is needed to kick back and calm the nerves. Penguin Isle is most probably not that game. Penguin Isle is an idle civilization-building game in which you start as a lonely penguin on a barren arctic island that you will soon build into a thriving community.
Album Review: “Limbo” by Amine
Between “Good For You,” “ONE POINT FIVE,” and “Limbo,” Amine continues to deliver music that is overall well written and produced, but his style may not be for everyone. “Limbo” is Amine’s newest album and for fans of his work is a shining light in the seemingly endless year that is 2020.
App Review: Dive Chat
Has a group you’ve been in solely communicated via limited group messaging apps? Have you ever had trouble keeping up with all of your scheduled events? What if those processes were all done in a single place? The result is, well, a mixed bag to say the least. Dive Chat is a group messaging app that combines the instant private messaging component of other social apps with the ability to maintain a schedule of events for the various groups registered on one’s profile.
Movie Review: Steve Jobs (2015)
Genius. Brilliant. Innovator. These are some of the terms that we use when describing the people who forever changed the world of technology. But we seem to miss the mark quite often when it comes to fully understanding these personalities. Granted, they tend to think about the world on a grand scale, but we forget that, at their core, they’re still human.
