Multimodal AI: Making sense of smart building data
The modern edifice, bristling with sensors, cameras and the intricate web of building management systems, has ushered in an era of unprecedented data generation. This digital deluge is poised to expand exponentially, offering facility managers a formidable challenge: transforming this raw information into actionable intelligence.
Roosevelt Intermediate School Presents ‘Rock of Ages: Youth Edition’
Break out your vintage concert t-shirts and Vans sneakers! Roosevelt Intermediate School (RIS) is psyched to announce its upcoming spring musical production of “Rock of Ages: Youth Edition,” a fun, high-energy show packed with classic 80s rock anthems you’ll (like, totally) remember from the era that made big hair, music videos and arena rock famous.
Back to Reality After Another ‘Swell’ Vacation
Sigh. I already feel like I’m light years away from LBI and our annual family vacation in early August. After morning bike rides, the delightful ocean provided eight consecutive days of summer swell. Not only was it perfect for catching relentless waves, it also significantly shrunk the swelling and pain in my knees, which are likely due for replacement before too much longer. Thanks to hours spent in cold salt water (the wetsuits helped), I haven’t moved like this in three years. The only downside?

Long Beach Island Buzz: Bored of the Flies
No heart? No way! Dorian Ritter, 9, of Westfield, N.J., finds a friend in the garden behind her family’s rented Surf City cottage. (Courtesy of Ted Ritter) It wasn’t the pandemic I heard people talking about on LBI last week. Not masks, social distancing, or the ongoing shortage of Lysol spray. It wasn’t debates about going back to school in-person or virtually. Nor was it the 2020 election on which this dear Republic’s future may depend. Nope; it was the flies.
Developing an IT roadmap in facility management
The IT Community of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA) often gets asked about how to get started with IT in facility management (FM) and how to develop a long-term strategy for FM IT solutions. This fall, at IFMA’s World Workplace in Charlotte, North Carolina, the IT Community set out to provide practitioners with the tools to do just that.
