Which fight was better: Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol 1 or Naoya Inoue vs Junto Nakatani
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Flo_Raiden, . Both fights were highly anticipated where you had unbeaten elite fighters in an undisputed title fight representing the same country (Russia, Japan). The two fights ended up becoming high level chess matches while still providing good action. Highly competitive with no knockdowns surprisingly. Despite both fights being much more tactical and less explosive than expected they still ended up living up to the hype IMO.
So Inoue number one now?
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by JackSilver, . It’s true what they say, one moment you’re up the next you’re right back down an vise versa. people thought beating Nakatani on points wasn’t enough to put him at number 1 but now he’s number 1 without throwing another punch since? He should have already been number 1. Now there is no debate to be had PopPellegrino and Finkel like this.
More fighters will retire undefeated...
...and it’s not just because they’re that good. No undefeated fighter is in the top ten of all time. It’s the records with some scar tissue that - in the vast majority of cases - have the most substance. Some of this is indebted to the ‘come one come all’ mentality of yesteryear, but, let me be clear, I don’t deem it impossible that a modern fighter could ascend into that rarefied air. Things would just have to change. The main issue is boxing’s biggest cancer – inactivity.
Why the money argument is wrong
Back in 2020/2021, when Usyk was getting ready to challenge Joshua, Tyson Fury was asked if he will fight Usyk and his response was no. Fury was then asked if he will fight Usyk if Usyk beat Joshua and he still replied that he wouldn't because Usyk is neither American or British and doesn't speak good english and that the heavyweight champion of the world should be either from UK or America.
Bob Fitzsimmons vs Primo Carnera
It'd be fun for as long as it lasts. With Bob's fair skin and general disadvantages he is prone to get roughed up, but lose...that doesn't sit well. There will come a time when either a left or right sinks into the Ambling Alp and Fitzsimmons ability to turn the tide will become woefully apparent. Ted Spoon is under no statistical illusions; the Cornishman was a top-end hitter, and as a tactician he was superb.
At 135lbs it would a great fight because Whitaker's workrate was also tip-top; nobody could out-hustle Armstrong but Pernell would have unique answers to a common problem. Could he get Hank at the end of his jab/back-pedal long enough to sculpt rounds in his favour? This is the big problem for Sweet Pea. Armstrong really kept his chin tucked, and when he got caught they barely seemed to register. But it wasn't so much they didn't hurt as it was that he didn't need to reset - bad news for any boxer.
James Figg The First Champion
Here's what those fights looked like, taken from "James Peller Malcolm Anecdotes of the manners and customs of London during the eighteenth century. — 1810." The Spectator, No. 436, enables us to form a correct idea of the brutal sports of the Bear-garden—the Theatre for the double exhibition of natural brutes and the degeneracy of human nature.
Can you see Oleksandr Usyk going 30-0 before retiring?
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Flo_Raiden, . Usyk is currently 24-0 and still showed that he's still a dominant force to be reckoned with. Just based on how he looked in his last performance can you envision him going another 6 more fights and potentially retiring with a 30-0 record? And who are the last opponents that you would want to see him face next?
Henry Armstrong Vs Prince Naseem?
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by Mandela2039, . When he won the Undisputed Featherweight Championship, Hank was 124lbs and KO'D 126lbs Petey Sarron Naseem against his best opponents (Kelley, Medina etc) weighed 126lbs consistently too Taking these facts into account, who would win? **** man i missclicked how do i delete this No option for Hamed. Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Ted Spoon, . There's a chance we're looking at another undefeated career, though I'm not too confident. Naoya has remarked how he wants to challenge himself. Rumours of Akhmadaliev, Nick Ball and Nakatani within the next twelve months is serious business. Please specify who you think might beat the Japanese. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account? No, create an account now. Yes, my password is: Stay logged in
Is MMA and UFC killing Boxing?
I voted no because its boxing killing boxing, and yet also, it always survives. In the 1990s when you could not leave Target or Walmart without seeing a Hulk Hogan or Macho Man Savage action figure , poster, books or t-shirt on the stands where my Roy Jones Jr poster, book, action figure or t-shirt?
Joe Walcott TKO 7 Joe Choynski
he grant said: While that may be true, isn't it interesting that for every loss there are five excuses? Click to expand... It's entirely possible that this was only an excuse by Choynski, Evan, as we certainly know that excuses are made in abundance by fighters who have lost. But this one by Choynski seems to have carried a little more weight and more press than what is the norm for these type of things, as it was played up in the papers and in detail for days after the fight.
Jack Dillon nearly got to fight Jess Willard
Discussion in 'Classic Boxing Forum' started by janitor, . Jack Dillon came prety close to being matched against Jess Willard for the title following his rapid destruction of Tom Cowler. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstract.html?res=9C00E1D71E38E633A25750C0A9649C946796D6CF Prior to that Dillon had a streak of wins against larger fighters including Porky Flyn, Charlie Weinert and of course Cowler. Yep.
Greatest bareknuckle fighter of all time (head to head)
Some nominees: Jem Belcher--might have been the greatest potential talent, but an eye injury stunted his career and he ended up losing to Pearce and Cribb. Henry Pearce--might have become the best, but alcoholism not only ended his career prematurely but also probably contributed to his early death at 32. Considering Belcher fought him with only one eye in Pearce's biggest win, and also taking into account his heavy drinking, I can't see rating him at the very top.
USYK IS UNDOUBTEDLY POUND FOR POUND NUMBER ONE
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by IronMaster, . He was p4p number 1 anyway before this. But now there's no way you could ever possibly have anyone ahead of him. There is no debate to be had. He's undisputed in a division of men weight 30 pounds more than him. He's the greatest fighter of this era, a truly special fighter, and in his own league. P4P is here today, gone tomorrow. Usyk's record speaks for itself. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account?
Okay Inoue is great but his chin today….. good grief
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by MVC!, . Hate to tell it as it is but it looked damn shaky. Down and hurt pretty bad, he had jelly legs for sure. He needed damn near the whole ten to stand , he might have fell down again if he got up too quickly Ala Zab Judah so that was smart by him Most people would have taken that shot without going down tbh Seems like there’s some glass in his mandible after all Obviously. He went down off a check jab from myself with 30 oz gloves.
Jack Johnson Vs Jack Dempsey...?
Dempsey's best chance probably lies within the first ten rounds, not because I subscribe to the theory that he was a firework but rather Johnson's physical presence would grate. Wrestling with him for 20 rounds was like swimming a lake of treacle. The good news for Dempsey is he was blessed with the speed and length to breach that gap. As Johnson's tries to swat down the straight stuff Jack would swoop in at sharp angles. He was very hard to read as a come-forward boxer.
Rest in Peace, Joe Rein
I'm truly saddened to hear this news. I didn't know of Joe's personal battle, no less because he had been posting around here quite recently. He was rightly treasured as a beacon of information, plus owner to a seemingly bottomless pit of brilliant, first-hand anecdotes that gave real flavour to eras most of us younger fans only know through pictures and recycled stories.
I'm A Fan Of Usyk But He Legitimately Got KO'ed
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Dynamicpuncher, . No ifs or buts that was a 100 percent legal punch right on the belt line. senpai, KernowWarrior, exocet76 and 2 others like this. Fury would destroy him. I like Wilder's chances too. I think so. He was out and had the ref started counting he did not look like he could have gotten up. Unless the ref starts counting, it's purely hypothetical. Usyk is the best and elmaldito like this. Jennifer Love Hewitt said: ↑ I think so.

Jake Paul Phony Fights Discussion
Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by BitPlayerVesti, . With the WBC seemingly creating a made up title for every other fight, I honestly think they'll create one for Jake Paul or someone similar soon. I can't believe how good a job they are doing of destroying any credibility they have. Last edited: iceferg, White Bomber, Clinton and 2 others like this. The WBC Influencer title? I Don't Like How Naoya Inoue Looked...
I just watched the full fight and I'm not really impressed. Yes, it was completely one-sided, but Inoue looked flat, kinda disinterested (going through the motions), and he lacked his usual precision and timing. I'm not sure what to make of it here... Could just be that the Thai was packing titanium in his chin and he was just that tough a mofo. Inoue could have been utterly bored and didn't take his opponent seriously. I mean, how can you see his resume and be anything but unimpressed.

How well has this aged
It's interesting. I think focus and discipline are talents, to a degree. They are talents that someone like Wlad had in spades. Fury admitted in the lead-up to the Wlad fight that he didn't have the ability to stay champion and fit the way Wlad did for years on end. He was right. That's probably why his toughness and talent don't include the ability to do that. Which is sad.

Gibbons St. Paul style
robert ungurean said: ↑ Can u give some examples? Click to expand... Well, you had Mike O'Dowd who started out as a semi pro football player and wrestler got into boxing via Mike Gibbons who tutored him early on and used him as a sparring parter. O'Dowd went on to win the MW championship.
Jeff Mayweather, Uncle of TBHehe, SaysManny Pacquiao Has Case For Being The GOAT...
Boxing News 24 Forum Forums > Boxing > World Boxing Forum > Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by JOKER, May 26, 2021. Interviewer asks about Pac beating Spence and becoming the GOAT. "He's got a case for that anyway." Brixton Bomber, George Crowcroft, Reinhardt and 3 others like this. Damn, wasn't expecting that. Does anyone put Canelo over Barrera, Morales & Marquez...?
I ask because it appears some do. For me the last true Golden Era of boxing was forged by Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez. Admittedly, this 'era' is a bit vague (there's almost 13 years between Barrera-Morales I and Pacquiao-Marquez IV), but their bouts were always top-drawer. As Canelo Alvarez continue's to add to his legacy, talks of becoming Mexico's Greatest have multiplied, but are we all getting a little giddy?
Teofimo P4P number...?
A clear victory over arguably P4P #1. Where does that put Lopez?
Had Ruiz showed up for the AJ rematch...
does he win? Joshua came with a different mindset and gameplan but wasn't unhittable in there. Had Ruiz weighed around 260, applied pressure, and fought three minutes a round (as promised), can he break down this trim, safety-first Joshua? Or would AJ still manage to get away with a points win?
