Tenikka Smith Hughes’s Biography

I'm an experienced journalist with a passion for storytelling and community engagement. I currently anchor the 5, 6, 10 & 11 p.m. weekday newscasts for CBS47 & FOX30 Action News Jax, a Cox Media Group property in Jacksonville, Florida.

I am an Emmy-nominated journalist & a Florida Associated Press Broadcasters Award recipient. I'm also proud of my contribution to the Action News Jax team's regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Overall Excellence in Large Market Television.

I've been in the news business for 15 years. Prior to making the move to the Jacksonville, I spent five years working as an anchor and reporter with our sister station, WSOC-TV in Charlotte, North Carolina. I've also worked at stations in Memphis, Tennessee, and Macon, Georgia.

I'm from the small town of Whitakers, North Carolina. I graduated summa cum laude with an undergraduate degree in Mass Communications from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina in 2003. I went on to earn a Master’s in Journalism from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland at College Park in 2004.

You can often find me spending time in local classrooms, promoting youth literacy and education. I also enjoy connecting with viewers at community events across the area. In my free time, I love traveling and trying new restaurants with my husband.
