Terrence Dwyer
Terrence Dwyer’s Biography
A Bronx, New York native who served over 24 years in law enforcement, with 22 of those years in the New York State Police as a Trooper and an Investigator. From there he spent several years as an attorney representing police officers. When he is not writing, Terry is a tenured professor teaching legal studies at Western Connecticut State University.
He began his professional writing journey in his 20s as a part-time local sports reporter. He subsequently published and edited a subscription-based newsletter, then a law blog prior to joining Police1.com as a featured columnist. Terry has written three textbooks, numerous articles, several regionally produced plays, and a commercial title, The Badge Between Us: Duty, Marriage, and Family, published by Bloomsbury.
He formerly served as an Associate Editor for the Scribes Journal, as a Scripts Editor for River & South Review, and as a Graduate Assistant for Blue Moon Plays. He is a member of the Dramatists Guild, Playwrights Center, Association of Writers & Writing Programs, Textbook and Academic Authors Association, the National Writers Union, the Public Safety Writers Association, and the Mystery Writers of America.
Terry received a B.A. in English Literature from Fordham University, an M.A. in Creative Non-fiction and a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Wilkes University, and a J.D. from Pace University Haub School of Law. Admitted to the practice of law in Connecticut and New York, Terry retired from his law practice in 2022 and now consults on law enforcement employment matters and liability issues.
