A Nation in the Streets
The sound of chants and the rhythm of drums carried through Fort Collins as protesters gathered for the nationwide “Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Out” protest on Jan. 30, 2026. The crowd brought together multiple generations, from children to the elderly, including a large number of CSU students. The protest addressed the rising concerns surrounding current ICE practices.
Why Can’t I say (X)?
What’s so controversial about words like “women,” “equality,” “race,” or even “green”? And why would the federal government be inclined to include these, and a swath of others, on a list of federally banned words? What implications does this have on higher institutions like universities, and what does it mean for words to be federally banned in practice?
Self-Medication or coping?
Whether it takes the form of intense exercise, substance use or something else entirely, self-medicating stress, anxiety and depression has become a reality for many university students. As academic, social and financial pressures accumulate, the line between everyday coping and harmful habits can become increasingly more difficult to draw. Students (and, arguably, many other populations) are facing a lot of stressors.
Understanding Homelessness
As Coloradans, we are all familiar with the high cost of living and limited affordable housing. However, many struggle to find empathy for those who are currently unhoused. For some Fort Collins community members, there is a constant state of judgment, fear, and lack of understanding when they see camps, carts, and people asking for help. Assumptions pile up, not going unnoticed by unhoused people.
Is AI the enemy?
Categories: April 21, 2026 “We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion.” This quote from the movie Dead Poets Society touches on a question that has made its way into professional, academic, and creative spheres. Is our passion being slowly stripped away from us, right before our eyes? Or is it taking on a new form, aided by new tools, technologies, and resources?

After watching the 2024 NYC Marathon in Central Park, Trenton’s first thought was, “Yeah I want to do that.” He signed up for the Maryland 2025 Ironman that was set to happen in September of 2025.

As winter drags on, I tend to slow down and fully embrace being a homebody. At first, it feels cozy and relaxing. Then, somewhere along the way, my social life starts to dwindle. I become more likely to cancel plans, stay in and feel bored more often than I’d like to admit. To break out of that cycle, my roommate, Jade Kautzsch, and I decided to make a conscious effort to stay socially active.
Romantic Realities
Categories: How societal expectations shape aroace experiences March 10, 2026 Valentine’s Day recently passed, and love was in the air. There were flower shops selling roses, candy hearts being exchanged in class, and everyone was hoping to impress their special someone. At least, that’s what most people imagine. In reality, not everyone has a “special someone,” or even the same interest in romantic or sexual relationships.
When Dating Has No Name
Categories: Anonymous accounts of modern-day romance March 5, 2026 The situationship started with a bang for a third-year Colorado State University (CSU) student during an October night after a flag football game outside the CSU Recreation Center. He offered her a ride home, where they enjoyed laughing about stories from their past and the professors they hate. When they reached her apartment, they sat in the car for another hour, doing more than talking. Over time, their relationship deepened.
Categories: March 3, 2026 Home. It’s a word that is so simple and yet so complex. When you get to college, the number one question that people ask you is ‘Where are you from?’ For me, that question resulted in me always saying ‘Southern California.’ My hometown is the same size as the undergraduate population at Colorado State University and the likelihood of someone actually knowing what I was talking about is slim to none.
Lacking Representation
Categories: Greek life’s complex relationship with transgender and nonbinary inclusion February 27, 2026 Greek-letter organizations have few transgender and nonbinary members due to non-inclusive bylaws and an apprehensive culture. Additionally, a perception that Greek life isn’t welcoming to LGBTQ+ students often deters them from applying.
A Recipe for Connection
In June 2025, when Maida Trattoria opened its doors in Old Town Fort Collins, the historic Avery building took on new life. Bringing generations of Italian family history and twists on classic specials, the restaurant was offered as a love letter to community, connection, and the joy of new experiences. There are many great options for a night out in Fort Collins, but this one absolutely deserves a spot on your rotation.
Categories: A look into consumer behavior and the commodification of love February 24, 2026 It is Jan. 3, and you walk into a department store for the first time since the holidays. Less than two weeks earlier, the store was filled with festive arrangements and displays with ample amounts of Christmas decorations and gifts. Today it looks a little different. Hues of pinks and reds fill your vision.

Fort Collins is an ice cream hub, with the cold and creamy treat positioned as a staple within our community. When strolling through Old Town, any turned corner comes with the possibility of running into an ice cream shop. That being said, competition has been tight. I conducted a poll of 71 participants, prompting them to submit their favorite ice cream shops.

George Bernard Shaw once said that “youth is wasted on the young.” It’s one of those phrases that we hear growing up that doesn’t make much sense. Whenever my friends and I would hear it, we’d mock it, saying “we can’t wait to grow up! Everything will be better the moment we turn 18!” Do you remember the first time you truly understood what death was? The first time you realized that someone you loved would never come home? When we were little kids, we assumed that everything was immortal.
Sewn Into History
Two decades ago, low-rise jeans dominated campus, complimented by bedazzled purses, chunky highlights and baggy men’s clothing. Now, those trends have returned, with thrifted finds, platform sneakers and cargo pants sweeping across the LSC Plaza. The current fashion at CSU has found its way back to the 2000s, displaying students’ cultural and identity changes. Today, fashion plays a more intentional and diverse role at CSU; the focus has shifted more towards sustainability and originality.

The 2024–25 Colorado Eagles season was all about balance. Although the team didn’t make national headlines, it served as a testament to what the Eagles are capable of. The Colorado Eagles sold out all 36 of their regular-season home games during the 2024–25 season; a streak that has continued for the past 3 seasons. Today, people in Northern Colorado look forward to competitive hockey seasons filled with moments that make fans proud.
Brewing a Legacy
When Fort Collins was founded in 1864 as a military camp near the Cache la Poudre River, beer wasn’t part of the picture. The settlers who came later built a community focused on morality, with rules banning gambling and liquor that predated prohibition. As it turned out, Fort Collins was positioned in an ideal landscape for beer production. The Cache la Poudre River provided mineral-rich water from the Rockies, and the nearby plains produced an abundance of barley and wheat.
111 Years and Counting
As the crisp autumn air settles over Colorado, CSU is preparing for one of its most cherished seasonal traditions: Homecoming Week. For over a century, homecoming has remained a staple of Colorado State University’s extracurricular life. The event started in 1914 as a small alumni gathering and football game, but has grown into a weekend celebration that honors the university’s history and brings together Rams from all generations.
On any warm afternoon, the Oval, IM fields and other green spaces around campus are filled with students taking in the sun. As the fall comes to an end, the vibrant leaves begin to settle and the daytime becomes shorter; the importance of spending time outdoors is evident – it plays a crucial role in CSU culture. Either through hiking, biking, clubs/sports or simply sitting outside, CSU students find various means to stay connected to nature.

Up until 2004, Rocky Mountain Student Media Corp.
