Mitsubishi announced the return of the iconic Pajero off-roader. The new flagship SUV rides on a Triton-derived ladder-frame chassis. It will debut in autumn 2026, sold as the Montero in certain markets. Mitsubishi has finally put years of rumors to rest by officially announcing the global comeback of its most iconic off-road nameplate. The Japanese automaker released an official teaser for a new Pajero that will also return as the Montero in some markets, hopefully including North America.

Badge engineering is alive and well in Japan’s highly popular kei class. Toyota has launched the new Hilux in the Japanese market. Pickup offered with options from Modellista and GR Parts. It’s priced from ¥4,980,800 ($31,200) with a turbodiesel and 4WD. Toyota revealed the ninth-generation Hilux back in November 2025, but only now has the pickup truck arrived in its home market of Japan. The redesigned body, the reworked cabin, and the stiffer ladder-frame chassis are all old news by this point.

Both command a hefty premium over the standard GR Yaris lineup. Toyota Gazoo Racing has flung open applications for two of the most exclusive GR Yaris models it has ever sanctioned for Japan. The GR Yaris Morizo RR and the GR Yaris Sébastien Ogier 9x World Champion Edition are capped at 100 units apiece, and the only way in is through the GR smartphone app.
