Interview
What was your first job as a journalist?
Research. Before you type anything, make sure you get all possible information and only provide truthful, fact-checked reporting.
Have you ever used a typewriter?
You mean the actual device called "typewriter"? Once, I think, for a school project.
How is social media changing news?
In a troublesome manner. Polarizing politics have thrown everything else on the backburner and every debate is quick to turn virulent fast.
Who's your favorite fictional journalist?
Henry Hackett...and Ron Burgundy :)
What does it mean to be a journalist?
To be an information provider that allows the public to form their own opinions over your words, without bias.
What's the funniest news-related #hashtag you've seen?
I don't think I can point to a single one since hashtags are timely contextualized.
How do you prefer to be pitched on stories?
No personal preference: just be objective and try to keep it under whatever I'm covering (no, your CEO's change of company culture ain't it).
What tools and software do you use to do your job?
Docs (typing), Pinpoint (research/transcribing), Google Trends
What's your favorite social network?
BlueSky, recently. Also, TikTok and Instagram for unrelated, unprofessional shenanigans and memes.
Who do you wish followed you?
No one? Besides my friends, I don't think I care about "who".
Why did you become a journalist?
I always had a knack for writing and talking. I've also been watching the news from an early age, so it became natural to me.
Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?
Not on high school, but in college. I did entertainment news and some academic updates.
What story are you most proud of writing or working on?
All of them: be it a news article or a full on interview, I take pride in my work.
What advice can you offer to aspiring journalists?
Be consistent on your morals and beliefs. Journalism is at a low point, and people will try to take advantage of you because of it.
When's the best time to pitch you?
"Anytime". You pitching me does not mean I'm answering you right away, but I will answer you eventually.
What's the best pitch you ever got?
A gaming event from Devolver, at the same day of another gaming event from Warner. Devolver's was smaller, but they had free burgers.
What's the worst pitch you ever got?
A "domain-dialing" website that went on to berate me because I wasn't too sold on their story.
What's your favorite drink?
Beer, Tequila, Jack Daniels and Jagermeister.
When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?
In the gym, at a restaurant/bar or playing videogames.
Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?
WIRED, Polygon, Associated Press, Reuters, CNN, The Guardian, Famitsu, GameRant, ScreenRant, G1, Canaltech, Mundo Conectado, ESPN...
What's the most common misperception about your beat?
That B2B solutions have any type of application on B2C and device-based news coverage.
