Slacker Casbah December Residency!
I love a good RESIDENCY! In the past year I have assisted in curating a RESIDENCY with local bands Blair Gun, Egg Records and Pip Lewis at Casbah, for the month of December we have Slacker. The San Diego based band is made up of members JP, Sam, and Avery, and they just released their debut album, Act Natural, in November 2025 recorded at Big Fish Studios.
Tim Pyles / The Local Pyle
What’s up San Diego? Besides listening to local music, I listen to a lot of BBC6 out of the UK, I am what you might call an anglophile when it comes to music. Locally I’ve been busy with assisting the Casbah booking local shows, I also had a great local show at the Belly Up recently and will be returning soon, as for the Casbah look at the list below and check out some local music news first.
Tim Pyles | CreativeMornings/San Diego
Tim Pyles is a longtime San Diego resident, who grew up in La Jolla with over 25 years of experience via radio and television broadcasting. Currently hosting radio shows on KXFM, Indie X FM and KNSJ, he’s previously been part of the on-air talent at legendary alternative radio station 91X, as well as FM94/9. His current radio stints specialize in local music from the Southern California/Tijuana area, with an additional program that focuses on new music releases from around the world.
Support Local Music!
The time is right to support local music! It’s up to you to accept the challenge and San Diego has plenty to offer, you just have to get off the couch. I understand the weather is nice, but that isn’t conducive to art and culture when everybody wants to play pickle ball. So please accept the challenge because I’ve been producing loads of shows at the Casbah, including an upcoming RESIDENCY with Pip Lewis and Egg Records every Tuesday in June.

Pyles’ Monthly Picks March On
Growing up here in San Diego, I've seen many things come and go. From venues to bands, sometimes life is fleeting, but don't let it be. Make those lasting friendships by going to shows and making friends -- I hear it adds years to your life. The opportunities are endless ... The power of a song is, well, powerful.

A great man once said, “Hello there ladies and gentlemen / Hello there ladies and gents / Are you ready to rock? / Are you ready or not?” That man? Robin Zander of Cheap Trick. An inspiration — and I say yes, I'm ready to rock! We have one extra night this month, it is a leap year; are you a leap year baby born on Feb. 29? Is that cool or does it suck? Regardless, we got stuff to do so, are you ready to rock? Full disclosure: I booked several of the shows on this list. Feb.

Pyles’ New Year Showdown
Man, oh man, what a year! Did you have fun? See some good shows? My favorite was Idles at the Observatory North Park. 2019 was pretty good, but looking forward to 2020 for more reasons than one. And just so you know, I booked eight shows at the Casbah in January, very few of them are listed below and, as always, don't forget I am at the Merrow every Tuesday — think of that as my office hours and stop by with your latest single for Loudspeaker.
Tim Pyles' December Countdown

Now, I know tastes are different -- more than ever before -- so this is just a guide, and I don't claim to be your personal tastemaker, because tastes are different. In the days of monoculture, we shared many interests, but today, it's getting harder and harder to have a shared experience, as we aren't the same as we were.

May the Shows Be With You
Tim Pyles, 91x's "mayor of local music," is back to curate the best shows of the month By Tim Pyles Published 2 hours ago April showers bring May flowers. What a wet winter and we needed it, but I am ready for spring and summer. Looking ahead, as usual the choices are many but the dollar doesn't go as far, so how will you spend it? Are you staying more local? Seems like that is the future as we get more cool stuff in the neighborhoods. Plus, gas is expensive.
