The Federal Page for Fall 2020
By Theodore King The 5th District Congress Race I have asked some folks in the 5th District regarding the Republican runoff last August between Stephanie Bice and Terry Neese. I was informed that it was ugly. State Senator Stephanie Bice has a cumulative voting score in this paper of 58 percent. That’s just right of center. Her voting record makes her an “eh” choice for conservatives in the general election against Congresswoman Kendra Horn. Conservative commentator William F.

The Federal Page for Winter 2019 By: Theodore King Congresswoman Kendra Horn I suppose I should offer congratulations to Congreswoman Kendra Horn on her upset victory over Steve Russell. She is the first Democrat to represent the Oklahoma City area since John Jarman, 43 years ago. She benefited from indirect financial support by former New York City mayor, anti-gun, and anti-tobacco fanatic Michael Bloomberg.

Happy Birthday to Paddy Joe and My Dad Happy 80th birthday to Patrick J. Buchanan, White House veteran, Nixon authority, author of many books, and the inspiration behind Donald J. Trump’s policies of putting America First. And Happy 85th birthday to T. Gavin King, my father, a veteran attorney and authority on Catholic dogma and the Queen’s English, as well as the best dad I could hope to have. Our country faces an existential threat. It’s not from terrorism. It’s the national debt.

On Monday, June 18, I attended a seminar in Tulsa on crypto-currencies, i.e. Bitcoin. Among the twenty some people in attendance was Tim Harris, a former Tulsa County district attorney who is now a candidate for Congress to replace Jim Bridenstine who became the administrator of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The Oklahoma Constitution
Congratulations to Congressman Jim Bridenstine, who was finally confirmed to lead the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) on April 19, by just one vote. His confirmation vote was along party lines because of his opposition to the hoax of global warming. He will undoubtedly make a fine administrator. (I’m unsure where NASA fits into our Constitution).

Last summer I reported on an amendment proposed by Congresswoman Vicki Hartzler of Missouri to the National Defense Authorization Act, which funds the Department of Defense, that would ban sex change surgeries for members of the armed forces. It was defeated 214 to 209. Twenty-four Republicans (none from Oklahoma) joined Democrats in blocking this common sense amendment.

Did, Indeed, Not Tell the Truth In the spring issue I wrote that Second District Congressman Markwayne Mullin was headed toward breaking his three-terms limit pledge. Well, he has broken it. In 2000 I was working in the office of Congressman Kevin Brady of Texas answering constituents’ mail. Two women in the office were talking about Congressman George Nethercutt of Washington state whose office was down the hall.

On Monday evening February 1, 2016, Iowa residents will go to school gymnasiums, town halls, and meeting rooms, etc. to cast their votes for their presidential picks. The temperature outside will likely be around freezing. Here are some of the candidates who should spend that cold evening by a cozy fireplace at home. After 30 years of teasing, New York developer Donald Trump is finally running for president as a Republican. He will make the Republican debates -- interesting.

FreedomWorks is an organization that promotes limited government and rates members of Congress based on their support of liberty. I used to report the National Taxpayers’ Union ratings of members of Congress, but for some reason they stopped rating members, three years ago.

This issue marks my 15th year of writing for The Oklahoma Constitution. I began in the Spring of 2000 while working for the Media Research Center in the Washington, D.C. area. My thanks go to Steve Byas and Ron McWhirter at the newspaper for their support of my columns all these years. Congratulations to former State Senator Randy Brogdon of Owasso on his election April 11th as Chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party.
The Oklahoma Constitution
In March 2012, pro-life activist and founder of Operation Rescue, Randall Terry, whose Christ-centered mission is to end abortions, was in Oklahoma running as a Democrat presidential candidate to raise awareness of the pro-life cause. Terry won several counties in the Democrat primary here. In other words, Oklahoma Democrats in those counties preferred a man they didn't know to President Obama. My father and I had dinner with him in Claremore.
The Oklahoma Constitution
Congratulations to Steve Russell, who defeated openly homosexual Democrat State Senator Al McAffrey to become the congressman for the Fifth District, succeeding James Lankford, who succeeded Tom Coburn to become our new senator. This quote comes from The Weekly Standard' s Andrew Ferguson, December 29, 2014: Coburn retires from the Senate at the end of this Congress, and we'll miss him. His résumé makes him an increasingly rare bird in the Washington aviary.

Congress Kicks the Can Again on Constitution Day Senator Coburn Wants to De-militarize the Local Police; We Need to Support Him! Will the Republicans Take the Senate? The National Taxpayers' Union (NTU) looks at how every member of the United States House of Representatives and of the Senate voted on bills affecting taxes, spending, and debt and rates them according to their support for limited government.

A Few Thoughts about the June 24th Primaries The Rise of UKIP; What Is Ukip? What UKIP May Mean to Us A Few Thoughts about the June 24th Primaries Congratulations to Congressman James Lankford, who after winning the Republican nomination on June 24th will certainly be elected to the Senate this November. He will become the first senator from Oklahoma City since Almer Stillwell "Mike" Monroney, who served from 1951 to 1969.
The Oklahoma Constitution
Language is important. In this campaign we hear candidates, pundits, the press, and even the public referring to the president as the Commander in Chief! That is a title reserved for the president, but unless you are currently wearing the uniform of one of our armed forces, the president is NOT your Commander in Chief! The definition of commander in chief is the supreme commander of the armed forces, and that's all.
The Oklahoma Constitution
On July 13, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 245 in favor of and 182 against the Motor Vehicle Safety Whistleblower Act, which included a conscience protection amendment authored by Diane Black of Tennessee which would allow health-care providers to refuse to be involved in abortions. The voting was along party lines except for three Democrats -- Henry Cuellar of Texas, Dan Lipinski of Illinois, and Colin Peterson of Minnesota -- joining Republicans by voting yes.
The Oklahoma Constitution
Nothing is going to change in politics until some of our leaders are replaced. Nothing. The reason is that many politicians crave power, and elective office means more to them than almost anything else. Once a few lose their offices due to bad votes or decisions, the others will think twice before casting bad votes or making bad decisions. That sounds simplistic, but it's true. Reverend Dr. James Taylor is in a political battle that could be compared to something biblical.

The Oklahoma Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) has spent hundreds of millions of dollars, and none of that money has gone toward reimbursing the state for treating smoking-related illnesses, the original intention behind the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) between tobacco companies and 46 states including Oklahoma. MSA was and is the source of the creation of TSET. Begun in 2001, TSET is a public trust created by the State of Oklahoma as a result of the 1998 MSA.
The Oklahoma Constitution
The Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET) is a billion dollar smoked piggy bank for healthcare with very little healthcare being given to Oklahomans. Voters approved a constitutional amendment to create TSET as a state agency in 2000 to spend money from the 1998 Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) between the tobacco companies and 46 states, including Oklahoma, that sued the tobacco companies for the states' treating people with smoking-related illnesses.

In 2012, Markwayne Mullin was the best speaker of the candidates in a crowded field vying to replace outgoing Congressman Dan Boren in the Second Congressional District of Oklahoma. To differentiate himself from the other candidates, he promised to serve only three terms if elected. And then he would, he said, “get my life back.” Mullin also used his campaign to promote his plumbing business with glossy mailers with a picture of Mullin Plumbing vans and a phone number on them.

On December 5, 1980, National Review held its 25th anniversary dinner at the Plaza Hotel in New York City. A month earlier, NR subscriber and conservative ideologue Ronald Reagan had been elected the 40th president. Columnist George Will spoke at that dinner. He said, “It took 16 years to count the ballots, but Barry Goldwater has finally been elected president of the United States!” That line drew thunderous applause.

Oklahoma has changed its political affiliation from Democrat to Republican. For a century, Oklahoma was a Democrat state known for its good old boy politicians, most infamously State Senator Gene Stipe who knew how to work the system for his own benefit. But in recent years the state has changed sides, going to the Republicans. As it turns out, Republicans can play the same game for their own benefit just as well as the Democrats.

This is my 50th column for The Oklahoma Constitution. I began writing about federal legislation and elections in the spring 2000 issue while working in the Washington D.C. area for the Media Research Center. In this issue, I will instead concentrate on some local election matters as we have just had some significant primary results in the state.
The Oklahoma Constitution
This is my 40th column in The Oklahoma Constitution. It completes a full ten years of my writing for this paper. I thank Steve Byas and Ron McWhirter for allowing me to write during these ten years, and I thank you readers as well. On January 19th, my late mother's birthday, Massachusetts sent Republican Scott Brown to serve in the U.S. Senate seat held by Ted Kennedy for 46 years. She would be very pleased. With the election of Senator Brown, the entire health-care bill is now in doubt.
The Oklahoma Constitution
First, I start with the process of elimination. Congressman James Lankford is a "no go." In 2010, he went to Washington promising fiscal reform, and in a short amount of time he learned to go along to get along. He voted for a pork-laden farm bill last summer which did not pass. Recently, he voted against a slightly scaled down version of that farm bill (which did pass) because he is now, as a Senate candidate, subject to more scrutiny from voters.

Ann Coulter spoke on behalf of pro-life activist and founder of Operation Rescue Randall Terry, a Democrat candidate for President, on, March 3rd at Arrow Heights Baptist Church in Broken Arrow. The next week Terry defeated President Obama in 12 Oklahoma counties in the Super Tuesday Presidential Primary on March 6th. Thanks to Randall Terry, who knows my father and with whom we had dinner the night before, I had the opportunity to sit down and have an interview with her.
The Oklahoma Constitution
There is much material to cover in this column. I begin by congratulating newly-elected Congressman James Lankford of Oklahoma's 5th District. His nomination last summer came as quite a surprise to many of us, myself included. I have seen his online videos and am impressed; obviously, so were the voters. I also congratulate Mark Costello, Oklahoma's new Labor Commissioner -- and the right fellow. I have known Mark and his family for several years, and they are great people.
The Oklahoma Constitution
Throughout the presidential campaign, I feared President Barack Obama would be re-elected because I was convinced the majority of the nation didn't know or care about how bad things really are. In other words, they were ignorant or suicidal or both. After all, they elected him in 2008 even though during the campaign when asked what experience he had that qualified him to be president, he answered that the experience of running his presidential campaign qualified him to be president.
The Oklahoma Constitution
On October 7, 2001 the United States began military operations in Afghanistan. That was 10 years ago. We overthrew the Taliban regime that was giving safe harbor to Osama Bin Laden and his terrorist network; we killed Osama bin Laden in neighboring Pakistan. It is past time to end military operations in Afghanistan. The British could not succeed in Afghanistan; nor could the Soviets, and neither will we despite our best intentions. We are broke; we cannot afford this entanglement any longer.

When President Obama was elected the first time, I had an image of a riverboat along the Niagara River with all the American people aboard. Some of us were screaming at the top of our lungs that this boat is heading dangerously close to the falls. Others aboard made up of guilty, white liberals; a majority of blacks; and official Washington types were marveling at how dashing Obama looked in his captain's uniform consisting of a white jacket, gold epaulets and buttons, and a jaunty hat.

In a rare attempt at reform, the U.S. House of Representatives on July 23rd by a vote of 327 to 98 with only one Republican -- Bob Turner of New York -- voting no, passed Ron Paul's H.R. 459, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2011 (aka Audit the Fed). All five members of the Oklahoma delegation voted for this good and needed bill.

RINO (Republican In Name Only) Hunter Comes to Oklahoma The Budget Deal and Dr. No Senator Coburn's announcement on Thursday evening, January 16th, that he will be cutting short his last term in the Senate by two years was sad news. However, he has fought the good fight for our country; his health and time to enjoy his family must come first. We wish him all the best in his recurring battle with cancer.

On June 18th the House passed a ban on abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. H.R. 1797, the District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, passed by a vote of 228 to 196. All five members of the Oklahoma delegation voted in favor of the bill to end abortions after 20 weeks. Six Democrats voted for the measure, and six Republicans voted against it.
The Oklahoma Constitution
On January 28th, the United States Senate voted 60 to 39 for S.J. Res 45 to raise the debt by 1.9 trillion dollars. Republican Mike Enzi of Wyoming was absent for this vote, and Republican Scott Brown of Massachusetts had not yet taken "the people's not Ted Kennedy's" Senate seat. Senators Coburn and Inhofe voted no on the raising of the debt ceiling. No Republican voted yes.

President Obama is receiving the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize, despite the fact that he is continuing two wars!! Some follow-up from the summer 2009 issue about H.R. 1913, the Hate Crimes bill that adds "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" (i.e. transgenders) to Title 18 of the U.S. Criminal Code. Last July, the Senate attached H.R. 1913 to the Defense Appropriations bill which is something that was done two years ago when the legislation was offered then.

The presidential election is depressingly predictable. A few thoughts: Mitt Romney will be nominated and lose to Barack Obama. Romney will lose to Obama for the same reason fellow Bay Stater Senator John Kerry lost to George Bush in 2004. That year, Democrats decided to go with the default choice and were not enthused. They were fearful of a second Bush term, which they got. To win an election, one has to have hope, not fear.
The Oklahoma Constitution
Although this column deals with federal matters, I begin with a local note. State Senator Randy Brogdon ran an excellent race for governor. He was outspent five to one by incumbent Congresswoman and former three-term Lt. Governor Mary Fallin. He was relatively unknown outside the Tulsa metro area up until the last months of the campaign, and yet he was able to garner almost 100,000 votes statewide in a closed Republican primary with a clear message and an army of volunteers.

Greetings to all who are known to Obama's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to be potential domestic terrorists. Are you a veteran returning from Afghanistan or Iraq? If so, you are a potential domestic terrorist. Were you a participant in one of the many tax day tea parties around the country? If so, you are a potential domestic terrorist.

From apathy to dependence, our next destination will be bondage. On April 29th, the U.S. House voted to pass H.R.1913, Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act, by a vote of 249 to 175.

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum was far from perfect as a candidate, but he was a better choice than Mitt Romney. If former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich were not so obstinately selfish, he would have realized his was a lost race, and he would have abandoned the race, and Santorum would probably have beaten Romney in Romney's home state of Michigan and gone on to beat him in Ohio.

On March 5th, Kentucky freshman U.S. Senator Rand Paul, son of former Texas congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul, took to the Senate floor and filibustered President Barack Obama's nomination of John Brennan to head the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

-Why Romney Will Be Nominated and Lose In early May, about the time the spring issue of this paper was going to press, President Obama gave the go-ahead to our special forces operating in Pakistan to raid the hideout of Osama bin Laden and kill him. This phenomenon reminded me of my late mother's Jimmy Carter moment: the 1979 Egyptian-Israeli peace accord signed by Anwar Sadat of Egypt and Menachem Begin of Israel on the south lawn of the White House, with President Carter presiding.

A column was sent to me by Tulsa blogger Michael Bates of Batesline.com. The column came from RedState.com and was titled "Lobster Traps of the Left," which explained that lobsters walk into traps set on the beaches for them. They can go in one way, but they can't go back out; hence they are trapped. For decades, Republicans have been like lobsters going into traps in Washington set for them by the left, and they are trapped.
The Oklahoma Constitution
On February 18th, the House voted for the Mike Pence, Republican of Indiana, amendment to defund Planned Parenthood, the nation's leading abortion mill. The vote was 240 to 185. All five members of the Oklahoma delegation voted for the Pence amendment.
Trump Should Keep The FDA From Regulating Cigars Via @dailycaller
The Trump administration has much work to do and undo, some of which should concern regulations of tobacco. In 2009, Congress passed the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, signed by then President Barack Obama, which gave the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory powers over tobacco products. The regulations that were promulgated at that time pertained to cigarettes.
