Ted Oshman, who also practices professionally as Theodore Oshman, is a veteran trial attorney and legal strategist with more than 40 years of experience representing individuals harmed by corporate negligence, defective products, and medical malpractice. He is the owner and principal attorney of The Oshman Firm, a nationally active plaintiff litigation practice based in New Jersey and New York City. Since beginning his legal career in 1984 and assuming firm ownership in 1985, he has played a central role in securing over $500 million in recoveries for clients involved in complex mass tort and catastrophic injury cases. His work has consistently focused on accountability, careful case development, and long-term client support.
Ted Oshman earned his undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Rochester, where he developed an early understanding of scientific reasoning and analysis. This background later proved valuable in evaluating medical records, pharmaceutical data, and expert testimony. After completing his undergraduate studies, he earned a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School, where he focused on litigation and trial advocacy. He later completed additional coursework at the New York University School of Professional Studies, expanding his knowledge of business operations and professional management. He is admitted to practice law in New York and New Jersey and has represented clients nationwide.
He began practicing law with The Oshman Firm and its predecessor entities in 1984. From the outset of his career, his work centered on representing individuals harmed by negligence, defective products, unsafe pharmaceuticals, environmental contamination, and medical errors. In 1985, he assumed ownership of The Oshman Firm and has maintained that role for more than four decades. During this time, he has remained actively involved in case strategy while overseeing the firm’s growth and operations.
As owner and principal attorney, he has guided the firm in environmental litigation, medical malpractice, pharmaceutical and medical device litigation, and personal injury law. The Oshman Firm has been appointed as lead counsel or co-lead counsel in numerous mass tort litigations across the country. He has also served in court-designated leadership roles, including liaison counsel and positions on Plaintiffs’ Steering Committees in Multi-County Litigations involving drug product liability and medical device claims. In recognition of its work, the firm was named “Best Lawyers Best Law Firms” by U.S. News & World Report in 2019.
Measurable outcomes mark his legal career for injured clients. Across all practice areas, more than $500 million has been recovered through individual cases and mass tort actions. Significant results include over $55 million recovered in the Roundup litigation and more than $40 million obtained in the transvaginal mesh litigation. In medical malpractice litigation, he has secured substantial recoveries in cases involving permanent neurological injury and other catastrophic outcomes. One notable case resulted in a $42 million cash payment and a structured annuity due to inadequate monitoring of labor progress.
In addition to legal practice, he has held leadership roles in several business ventures. Since January 2019, he has served as Principal Owner of Naliboki Enterprises, LLC, a venture capital and private equity investment entity based in Florida. He is also President of Sonaro Realty Corp., a real estate holding company operating in Florida and New Jersey, a position he has held since 2011. From 2004 until April 2021, he served as Chief Executive Officer of NeoVC, an angel investment fund based in the New York City metropolitan area. Since September 2017, he has served as Chairperson of eMatrix Energy Systems, Inc., a Michigan-based green energy technology company.
Philanthropy has remained an essential part of his professional and personal life. Ted Oshman has served on the boards of multiple charitable foundations and religious not-for-profit organizations. He supports groups focused on environmental protection and social welfare, including Greenpeace and the Alzheimer’s Association. Most recently, he and his wife provided material funding to Homes For Our Troops, which builds and donates custom homes to severely injured veterans. Outside of work, he values time with his wife, Anne, and their three children, and maintains interests in fitness, travel, and community involvement.
