Investment The number of activist investors in Europe has nearly doubled over the past five years with one in twenty publicly listed European firms becoming a target. However, the United States still leads the way, with activity double that of Europe. One in ten firms listed on the NYSE have encountered an activist investor.
The chronic flu? The economics of the Eurozone
For the last decade the media and economics community have become familiarly accustomed to narrating a poor performing Eurozone. Debt crises, growth crises, disintegration talk and a rise in right wing politics have left permanent scars on the credibility of the Euro currency. This is not surprising. Commentary: 10 years on – did the 'fair value' rule change the face of private equity?
Since 2007, the "fair value" rule has applied to the valuation of assets held by institutional investors, with the definition of fair value as the price that would be received by a seller for an asset in an orderly transaction between willing market participants at the measurement date. These accounting rules explicitly require institutional investors to take market prices and conditions into account when valuing all their assets.
