Are your clients' ACEs high?
In the card game Rummy 500, an ace can be played as a high card or low card as part of a run. For our clients, the higher the number of “ACEs” (Adverse Childhood Experiences), the more challenges they may face in navigating their lives. This is due in part to reexperiencing trauma, related mental health symptoms and the propensity to have life-limiting and life-threatening illness.

When I spoke with my dual-diagnosis clients about the skills they use when feeling vulnerable to unhealthy choices while in the midst of an episode ranging from mild to significant, a clear majority of my clients indicated that they use music to soothe their worries.

Time for a New-and Effective-Antitrust
Antitrust law has been much in the news recently, but not in a good way. A spate of articles from The Economist, The Atlantic, and The Nation, among others, talk about America’s “Monopoly Problem.” By this is meant that major sectors of the US economy have become highly concentrated, enjoying high profits and the ability to depress wages.
