South Korea proposes $599 billion 2027 budget, to boost chips and defence spending
SEOUL, Sept 1 (Reuters) - South Korea on Tuesday proposed an 821 trillion won ($598.79 billion) government budget for 2027, including special funding for its semiconductor industry and strategic weapons, the budget minister said in a cabinet meeting. The government earmarked 2.6 trillion won for a special semiconductor budget, the minister said at the cabinet meeting, where the national budget for 2027 is scheduled to be reviewed and adopted.

Aug 26 (Reuters) - Japan is preparing to set up a payment infrastructure to enable instantaneous settlement of transactions in stocks and Japanese government bonds using blockchain technology, the Nikkei newspaper reported on Wednesday. The Financial Services Agency, the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Japan and financial institutions will launch a study group this summer and are expected to formulate a development plan around the beginning of 2027 at the earliest, the report said.

Guotai Junan International receives take-private offer at over $3.6 billion valuation
Aug 7 (Reuters) - Hong Kong-listed brokerage Guotai Junan International said on Friday it received a conditional take-private proposal from Guotai Haitong Financial Holdings, valuing it at HK$28.59 billion ($3.64 billion). Under the proposal, shareholders will receive HK$3 in cash for every cancelled share, and the company will be delisted from the Hong Kong stock exchange. The offer price represents a premium of 44.2% to the company's last close on July 23, before it went on a trading halt.
