Thomas Kuriakose, MD’s Biography

Thomas Kuriakose, MD, is a New York-based physician focused on pediatric healthcare, currently pursuing a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. In 2022, he completed his pediatric residency at Boston Children’s Hospital and Boston Medical Center. His journey toward becoming a Pediatric Intensivist has consistently centered on advancing care for underserved communities.

Thomas completed his undergraduate studies in Biology and Economics at a college in Massachusetts. Following graduation, he joined a teaching initiative in Mississippi, teaching high school courses in Advanced Algebra and Trigonometry, Statistics, and SATP Biology for three years. His students routinely performed above state averages. In addition to teaching, he served as an assistant coach for track and field and soccer, leading several student-athletes to state-level success. These experiences shaped his long-standing commitment to youth development and influenced his decision to pursue medicine.

Thomas earned a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction before beginning medical school in New Jersey. During his medical education, he co-founded a mentorship program supporting adolescents with HIV and held multiple roles at a student-run clinic, including clinic director. He also played a key role in implementing a healthcare team training initiative to improve safety and collaboration. His efforts earned him recognition for service to the community.

During his residency, he was involved in curriculum development and initiatives addressing health disparities. As a fellow, his research explores how to improve communication between healthcare providers and families, particularly concerning acute respiratory failure in the pediatric ICU. He also introduced Health Equity Rounds at his institution to promote awareness and dialogue on disparities in pediatric care.

Dr. Thomas Kuriakose has remained active in volunteer service and advocacy, contributing to various organizations and mentoring efforts throughout his medical training. He has developed and led seminars, authored scholarly abstracts, and presented work focused on equity and communication in healthcare.
