1. Introduction Pneumonia is a lung disease caused by a bacterial or viral infection. It is the cause of death for over 1.4 million children under the age of five every year around the world [1]. In 2019, pneumonia accounted for 14% of global child deaths [2]. Although many childhood pneumonia deaths could be prevented with simple early interventions and appropriate treatment, pneumonia often goes undiagnosed and untreated in low-income communities until the child is severely ill.
