England's 'friendliest town' has 400 independent shops and a beautiful seaside
One charming UK seaside town is famous for its oysters, bustling harbour and colourful collection of independent shops. Oysters have long been at the heart of Whitstable's identity, with the town's seafood heritage dating back centuries. Today, its working harbour remains one of the main attractions, with fishing boats, seafood stalls, a market and waterside places to eat. But there's much more to Whitstable than its famous seafood.

The beautiful seaside town with 'UK's emptiest high street' - 65 vacant shops
Arriving in Ramsgate, it's hard to ignore the beauty of the coastline, its harbour, the sandy beach that feels a world away, and the charming cobbled streets of the town centre. However, it is also difficult to miss the many retail units that remain empty. Nearly one in four shops on the Kent town's high street are currently standing vacant - about 65.

Inside tragic village where one in 10 died in Morocco earthquake
The sheer horror, desperation - and hope - following the Morocco earthquake disaster was seen yesterday in a village where one in 10 people died. Together with photographer Tim Merry, I visited remote Sidi Hssain - carved into the steep terrain of the Atlas mountains. Friday night’s 6.8 magnitude earthquake brought death and destruction in just a few seconds - with around 12 of the 120 residents killed.
Morocco earthquake victim with one hand 'poking through rubble' saved after three hours
Remarkable stories of bravery and hope are emerging from the ruins of remote mountain villages devastated by the Moroccan earthquake. Yesterday it was announced at least 2,122 people have been killed, with more than 2,059 others injured, many of them critically in Friday’s quake. The United Nations estimated that in total 300,000 people were affected and there are fears that in one small town alone, Amizmiz, more than 2,000 have died.

NowNS: Lunenburg County rising to the occasion, forging a new way ahead for Nova Scotia
I recently found this in my diaries from 13 years ago, the year I moved to Nova Scotia: “The world is not going to get better. The current global chaos is going to increase. The madness we see now will only continue to escalate, I suspect until we hit a massive ecological crisis. I believe human intervention has gone too far globally to be remedied — the battle is lost. The opposite of despair is not hope for me; the opposite of despair is action.
