NHARPC CORNER: Helping Municipalities Meet Their Energy Goals
Recognizing that New Hampshire is one of the most expensive electricity markets in the nation and has significant dependency on electricity generation out-of-State, several regional planning commissions have become more involved in energy planning to help municipalities and their constituencies save on energy costs and address other municipal energy goals.
Britain needs an industrial strategy
The need for an industrial strategy couldn’t come at a more crucial time for our country, economy and our trade union movement. It should be a national endeavour that becomes even more important following the EU referendum vote. I was delighted to make the case to this year’s Trades Union Congress to build a modern industrial strategy that will engage the ideas and perspectives of workers in every region, devolved nation and sector.
Remembering the dead, and fighting for the living - now and every day
Remembering the dead, and fighting for the living - now and every day 27 Apr 2020 GMB General Secretary Tim Roache writes on how it's more important than ever that we mark this International Workers' Memorial Day - remembering the dead and fighting for the living. International Workers’ Memorial Day always brings mixed emotions.
Tim Roache | Fighting for members in the toughest times
Those priorities translated to keeping people safe, keeping people paid and out of poverty and securing jobs and industry so that people have work at the other side of this.
Give communities the power to lead the green jobs revolution | Tim Roache
The communities decimated by Thatcher and since blighted by the explosion of insecure work and the Amazon economy are crying out for the chance to make things again. To feel that pride of being the engine room of the nation, to lead the green industrial revolution. And in making them so, as a nation we would tackle so many of the different challenges we face. Retrofitting and insulation of homes reduces emissions, lowers bills and can create skilled, unionised jobs.
Tim Roache | Tolpuddle inspires us to fight for change today
We may no longer be facing deportation for organising, but powerful bosses and vested interests still put many hurdles in our paths as trade unionists. Many employers will fight tooth and nail to keep us off their shop floor, not letting us in the building or near the workforce.
The final say on Brexit
In many ways I’m with the vast swathes of people who wish we could stop talking about Brexit, not least because it means the so many other issues plaguing our country are being left to fester untreated. But with little more than 800 hours until the UK is due to leave the European Union there is still no deal in prospect. The stakes couldn’t be higher – for jobs, industries, rights and even for the United Kingdom as we know it.
Striking Back
It’s not an understatement to say that I’ve been a football fan for my entire life. At age 8, I first laced up my boots to play for the Foresters in Essex. Later on, I played semi-professionally for Barnet F.C. and Kettering Town. These days I’m happy to stand with my lad on the terraces at the Emirates. Football has been a constant presence for me through the years. As general secretary of GMB, I’ve been immensely proud to work with Show Racism the Red Card.

GMB Slams ASOS Sweetheart Deal
For background to this article click here This is utterly disgraceful behaviour by the employer and by Community, who need to have a word with themselves if they think this will help a single worker in Barnsley. GMB represents hundreds of ASOS workers, we’ve been on the gates day in day out and have already forced the company to change some of its appalling employment practices.
