1 Introduction Ionic liquids (ILs) are low-melting salts typically composed of organic cations—such as imidazolium, pyridinium, or ammonium derivatives—and a wide variety of organic or inorganic anions. Their bulky structure and delocalized charge distribution decrease the strength of electrostatic interactions, preventing the formation of a stable crystal lattice and resulting in melting points below 100°C, often even below room temperature.
