The fact is that it is a community public safety blog that reports actual, legitimate, recorded and official documented city data that is being used for it's residents to become aware of what is happening in their neighborhood and community and to form their own opinion on how to provide for their own welfare. I know of a few 'private' neighborhood/community blogs that do they same. Community reporting does not make it illegitimate.

I am very conflicted. I agree that society needs to take cyclists seriously and that when cyclists are injured or killed on the road that those responsible need to be held accountable. I am baffled by the seemingly light dispositions in the criminal cases that have been discussed on this forum. That being said I have issues with judges being scapegoated and I have a continuing strong opinion that civil rather criminal remedies are the only ones that really matter.

A man was objecting to the fact that the police were charging him with bike theft because he reasoned that he had left his bike in place for the one he took. The thief had stolen a $1,000 Diamondback Performance bike and then left his men's mountain bike in it's place.

Riding the Marathon Route
Has anyone ever given this a go? Any tips? I know the streets close at 7AM and the para-runners start at 7:20. Figure I might try to hop on the course near the start at 6:55 and see how far I can get before being forced off. Wish they allowed for a 4am ride of the route like the do in LA. The 67-year-old man, now identified as Jessie Rodriguez, was riding his bicycle when he stopped on a corner and was struck by a vehicle about 5:20 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Devon Avenue according to Chicago Police. Chicago Police are seeking the driver of a grey Dodge Charger with license plates AL 53664 which has extensive front end damage.

Please use lights. Front and back. Driving home from Waukegan and taking the backroads. It's eventually dark about halfway down. I see a ton of cyclists and a fraction (not including Divvy's) that have lights. Listen, I don't want to hit you. I am paying attention but I cannot see you.

The ride will return on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018. Since 1989, Loyola University history professor Timothy Gilfoyle has conducted a "midnight bike ride" for his students and friends. The event introduces students to major themes in American history by visiting various historic sites in Chicago.
