Who do you wish followed you?

Editors, PR professionals.

Did you work for your high school newspaper? If so, what did you do there?

I was the editor of my high school newspaper. It was a small school so me and one other student wrote just about all the copy.

What story are you most proud of writing or working on?

Writing about a proposed shipping route in Belarus, Ukraine and Poland that would use one of Europe's last unspoilt rivers, the Pripyat.

What's your favorite drink?

I am Scottish, so a wee dram is hard to beat.

When you're not at a computer, where are you most likely to be?

Swimming or surfing in the sea in Devon where I live. Or travelling.

Aside from your own, what's your favorite publication to read?

I've been travelling in the Balkans a lot this year and have started reading Balkan Insight regularly. Great reporting on the region.

What's the most common misperception about your beat?

Travel journalism is an endless parade of luxury perks.
