The Kids are All Right
Reading Time: 3 minutes With contributions from Geoff Love and Heather Wilson, Founding Members of Pivot Green Young people have every right to feel that their elders created this mess and should fix it. But with political leaders near and far backing away from environmental promises and focusing on the economy, just the opposite is happening.
MAZDA MX-5 RF Exclusive-Line, better than ever
Car Reviewed: 2024 Mazda MX-5 RF 2.0 Exclusive-Line The bottom line is that the MX-5 is as brilliant as ever. The version tested was the Exclusive-Line RF hard-top, powered by the 181 bhp, 2-litre, 4-cylinder engine. The 129 bhp, 1.5 engine remains available. Other trim versions include Homura (Japanese for ‘flame’) at the top of the range and Prime-Line; these also go for the soft-top MX-5 Roadster.
The range-topper, Isuzu D-Max V-Cross Auto
Car Reviewed: Isuzu D-Max V-Cross Auto The Isuzu D-Max test car was the range-topper in their Adventure series. Visually, it’s marked out by the colour range and Black Chrome wheels. Ours looked handsome in Spinel Red Mica. Gun-metal exterior accents add to the effect. TV commercials currently aim to sell this pick-up by showing a guy driving down to the beach with his surfboard and heading towards the waves or an intrepid hiker about to get out his climbing ropes.
Peugeot 508 SW GT Hybrid 225 Reviewed
Car Reviewed: Peugeot 508 SW GT PLUG-IN HYBRID 225 e-EAT8 Usually, on first driving one of our test cars, I like to take it easy, get the feel, and get informed about the controls. But, no, this time I was in a hurry, late for an appointment. So…let’s go! And I was rewarded with the smoothest throttle response you could wish for. Maybe it was because I’d just spent a week stuck in the family hack, a 22-year-old well-worn vehicle.
Scottsdale to resume sending water to Rio Verde Foothills
After nearly a year of fear, Rio Verde Foothills again will receive from Scottsdale that most precious of desert commodities: water. On Sept. 5, City Council approved an agreement to send water to the parched area. The 1,000 or so residents of the unincorporated community outside northeast Scottsdale had the inexpensive supply of city water they relied on for years shut off Jan. 1.

Tom Scanlan took his camera along to the Bicester Heritage Summer FlyWheel It’s the site of RAF Bicester as it was in World War 2 and now, in just a few short years, restored as a highly successful base for around forty businesses paying homage to historic cars and aircraft. There are workshops restoring vintage cars, and instructing people in how to do this, promoting classic car events and much more.
Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV Edizione Speciale
Visually, the Alfa Romeo Tonale is just another good-looking SUV – except when you look at the front and rear Car Reviewed: Alfa Romeo Tonale PHEV Edizione Speciale The Alfa Romeo shield grille between the three-in-a-row headlamp arrangement and its matching rear-light cluster distinguishes the Tonale. And for many thousands of Alfa fans, they hark back to those two totally diverse designs of the SZ and the Brera. And the test car was resplendent in its Alfa Red.
Bill could provide water for Rio Verde Foothills
Democratic and Republican state representatives, who have been battling emotionally for months on cultural and economic issues, again showed last week one thing can bring them together: water. A month ago, HB 2441 – which would force Scottsdale to resume providing water to Rio Verde Foothills – narrowly passed the Arizona House and Senate. But Gov. Katie Hobbs vetoed it, demanding that state representatives “send HB 2561 to my desk.” But a funny thing happened to the bill from Rep.

Genesis GV60 - a car with WOW factor
On the Genesis GV60, simply press the yellow button on the steering wheel Car Reviewed: Genesis GV60 Sport Plus Dual MotorEV There you go. And it’s not just wow; it’s WOW, big time! The instant torque available in this Genesis EV launches this heavy (2.6 tons) car astonishingly rapidly at any speed. When I first pressed that button on a long and gentle motorway curve, the car just leapt and I had to really grip the steering wheel to keep it from going off at a tangent.

Cupra Formentor V2 e-Hybrid, particularly impressive
“Could I get my golf clubs in it?” Car Reviewed: Cupra Formentor VZ2 e-HYBRID DSG-auto 245PS The man in the car park asked. He’d come up to me as I got out of our white VZ2 Formentor. He was a faithful SEAT driver on his fourth ownership but wanted something bigger and more upmarket. So: Cupra? Opening the boot, he reckoned his clubs would fit across diagonally or any old how if one of the rear seats was folded forwards. “So what do you think of the car?” was his next question.

Volkswagen Arteon R-Line eHybrid with feel good factor
Smooth, intelligent, practical, that’s the Volkswagen Arteon, a sporty ‘shooting brake’. Car Reviewed: Volkswagen Arteon Shooting Brake R-Line eHybrid 1.4-litre TSI Shooting brake: I suspect that Arteons are not generally used by people with 12-bore shotguns sitting in the boot with their feet dangling out as their dogs flush out pheasants. No, more like a car that can transport a good deal of family luggage as they head off on holiday. The boot is indeed a good size, as is the interior generally.

Mazda2 1.5 GT Sport Tech a likeable little Mazda
Mazda2 – the entry level small car in Mazda’s attractive range Car Reviewed: Mazda2 1.5 GT Sport Tech What’s not to like? The range-topping Mazda2 GT Sport Tech, around £21,000, very well-equipped, a pleasure to drive and up to 57.3mpg. I happened to follow a week in a much bigger car with this compact hatchback, yet it didn’t seem unduly small…because, in its class, it isn’t.

Peugeot 508 PSE Hybrid4 Reviewed
Such a handsome car: The Peugeot 508 PSE! PSE means…Peugeot Sport Engineered! CAR REVIEWED: 508 PSE HYBRID4 360 e-EAT8 4WD This is going to be something special, isn’t it? The basic stats would seem to support this: 355 hybrid bhp…wow! 384 lb/ft of torque…wow! 0-62 mph in 5.2 seconds…without having to change gear yourself because of that cool 8-speed auto box! So: loads of exclamation marks, but are they all justified, especially since this car will set you back around £55,000?

The Audi A4 Avant has a lot to offer Car Reviewed: Audi A4 Avant 40TDI S-Line Quattro Our test car was in 40 TDi and S-line format, so: plenty of performance from the 4-cylinder 2-litre engine that pushes out 201 bhp and can get to 62 mph in just 7.1 seconds through its super-smooth 7-speed S-tronic gearbox. S-line is not the top-of-the-range, so you mustn’t mind having, for example, having to adjust your driver’s seat yourself rather than via an electric switch.
Citroën Grand C4 SpaceTourer, a big "yes!"
No doubt, André Citroën, the company’s founder, would have found the latest Grand C4 SpaceTourer able to cross a ploughed field with a comfortable aplomb… Car Reviewed: Citroën Grand C4 SpaceTourer PureTech 130 S&S EAT8 automatic Shine History relates how he expected his marvellous little Deux Chevaux (2CV) to be able to carry out that somewhat unlikely task whilst allowing him to wear a top hat.
Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV, because it's worth it
An Experience, with a capital E, that’s Maserati for you. The almighty Levante Trofeo Edition is the ultimate. Given the top-end money that a few buyers can afford, even at nearly £150,000 (including a jaw-dropping £17,280 for the Rosso Magma paint on the test car), the price is arguably of no relevance…got the money, want the car.
Suzuki Vitara Full Hybrid 2022 reviewed

The Kia EV6 'Air' RWD -can Family EVs get any better?
No great surprise that the brilliant Kia EV6, for many journalists, became the Car of the Year. There’s a surprising amount to learn when you first get into your all-electric EV6. As time goes by, the rewards come thick and fast. Yes, EVs are very simple to drive: press the ready button, select D for drive, press the accelerator and you’re silently underway, very quickly too if that is your driving style. In the EV6, the paddles behind the steering wheel allow a choice of regeneration modes.

Ford does it so well! and the Focus ST just raises the bar. The ST, referring to sport technologies, is all you need if you want a smile on your driving face. Yes, 280 bhp from the 2.3-litre, four pot is the start-point for a study of the Focus’ potential…it’s obviously going to be a real goer! But, less easy to assimilate, perhaps, is how it will feel inside the car and out on the road. Here’s the answer: buy one.
Drive.co.uk - BMW -
Humans at BMW have put a certain amount of A.I. into their new iX and i4 EVs. Don’t be concerned…yet. Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is created by human intelligence. Sensibly, the driver is still in charge and can use or not use all of BMW’s ideas at the press of a button…or swipe of a finger, etc. Total autonomy is not yet king.

Peugeot 2008 1.2 GT Line, it's a winner
By the end of my week with the Peugeot 2008 and about three hundred and fifty miles, this French car had firmly become ‘mon ami!’ Or, as it’s built in Spain, ‘mi amigo!’ Whatever, and to recall two great English racing drivers friends of the fifties, Mike Hawthorn and Peter Collins, who called each other ‘mon ami, mate’, any combination of friendliness will do.

Simplifying TLS for Kubernetes Services
When I worked in operations, I used to dread when the topic of managing SSL and TLS certificates came up. Creating certificates required re-reading large chunks of the OpenSSL documentation, getting them signed correctly was futile, at best, and remembering to rotate them at expiry usually fell through the cracks. For most enterprises certificate management is an arcane art, steeped in mystery and manual processes. Each new web service forces us to relive this nightmare.

Scanlan: Younger generation not letting politicians sweep gun violence under rug
Fifteen dead at Columbine High School didn’t make a difference. Neither did the 20 children murdered inside Sandy Hook Elementary School. Perhaps the deaths of 17 students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will be the tipping point. Clearly, the parents and survivors of this latest tragedy are not going to be silent. They are not willing to see their friends and loved ones forgotten. They will not allow our political leaders sweep gun violence under the rug yet again.

Scanlan: Tribe mentality keeps leaders from working together on anything
I am old enough to remember the original cast of “Saturday Night Live.” Every weekend we would gather in front of the TV to laugh at Chevy Chase’s bumbling portrayal of President Gerald Ford, which always ended in a comical pratfall. In the following seasons, Dan Aykroyd became Jimmy Carter, who could talk down a teenager from a bad LSD trip while advising Americans to burn their money to fight inflation.
