Preventing Leaks and Service Callbacks in Pressure Boosting Systems
Service callbacks are always frustrating. And as labor and material costs continue to climb, they’re more than just an inconvenience—they can take a toll on a contractor’s bottom line. With skilled labor in short supply and technicians managing increasingly full schedules, every return trip means lost revenue, reduced productivity, and diminished customer satisfaction.
Beyond the Basics
Categories: Features, Pumps and Water Systems By Tom Stephan Adding a variable frequency drive (VFD) to electrically control motor speed increases efficiency, lowers energy consumption, and reduces equipment wear. Yet on occasion, VFDs need to be tuned and can inadvertently create power quality issues that impact overall equipment performance and reliability. This article explores common performance factors, the potential impacts, and mitigation options.

Study harvests water from Death Valley atmosphere using ambient sunlight
The study, published in the journal Nature Water, was led by Woochul Song from the Division of Environmental Science & Engineering POSTECH and Omar M. Yaghi, Professor of Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. Harvesting atmospheric water presents challenges, particularly in regions with humidity less than 70%, as it necessitates a substantial amount of energy to condense the vapor, rendering it an ineffective solution.

Manganese in Drinking Water: What It Is, How It Gets There, and More
5 steps to consider when designing a wastewater system
Wastewater systems play a critical role in water and sewage management, but many things can get in the way of their effective operations. For instance, organic solids, rags, wipes and other waste matter are all too frequent challenges when it comes to wastewater pumps, while incorrectly sizing a pump can cause issues such as sewage water backing up or water not pumping quickly enough.

Submersible Well Pumps: Tips for Servicing, Troubleshooting
Submersible pumps, built to last in tight, corrosive water well environments, can prove nearly inaccessible when suspended 10 feet from the bottom of such a well — often over 300 feet deep. This can make maintenance issues hard to diagnose, as well as leave the equipment susceptible to ambient temperatures, rainfall and drought.

Tom’s Food Forever Method for Long-Term Soil-Building
I wanted to grow my special variety of crossed tomatoes, which I use in my often ballyhooed guacamole. They are an ‘Early Girl X’ cherry tomato inter-specific cross. I think they’re delicious and they are prolific. My garden's soil blended with my homemade composts and the biochar did well. The key was soil preparation before planting. Growing the earthworm farm first before planting is a virtual guarantee of the crops future vigor and vitality. Then it happened.

Site and Build a Barn Owl Nest Box
Natural predators come in all sizes, shapes and classes. There are generalists that eat whatever they can get a hold of to specialists that just hunt and consume certain species in a particular way. Lions and cheetahs are good examples. Here in North America, owls own the night skies. Great horned owls (Bubo virginianus) eat a list of mammals, birds, and reptiles that is reminiscent of what the cartoon Tasmanian devil might eat (using about the same table manners).

Owl I want for Christmas is ‘whooooo’
There it was. A barn owl nest box hanging in a low branch of a spreading sycamore tree. I was bidding to trim the tree at the time and I mentioned to my prospective client that it was too low — owls would not nest there because they had no privacy. She wanted to know how I knew, and I explained that I had been a falconer all my life, and that I had climbed and studied all sorts of raptor nests.
