Based in London, Tom Streithorst writes about finance, economics, politics, international relations and art. He has directed documentaries in war zones, produced award winning commercials, and covered news stories on five continents.
He was born in Beirut and grew up in Latin America, Europe, and Indochina, following his war reporter father around the globe.
After graduating with honours from Princeton University, Tom plunged into the television industry, traveling from Congo to Cuba, from Jerusalem to Jacksonville shooting and editing for NBC, BBC, NHK, and many others. He was director of photography on documentaries in Africa, commercials in Brazil, and the first ‘reality’ series on prime time American network TV.
In the days after 9/11, NBC News sent him to Northern Afghanistan to cover the war between the United States and the Taliban. Fascinated by the people he met and the places he saw, he directed The Road to Kabul, a documentary chronicling the relationship between western journalists and their Afghan colleagues/
After Afghanistan, Iraq. For a decade, the misbegotten "War on Terror" paid his rent. From 2005 to 2010 Tom was part of Fox News' Baghdad Bureau . He also worked in Lebanon, Egypt, Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. In March 2011, a few days before NATO began its bombing campaign over Libya, he interviewed Muammar Gaddafi in the garden of dictator's Bab al Azizia fortress in Tripoli.
In 2005, he completed a Master’s degree in Economic History at the London School of Economics. Presciently, he focused his studies on financial crises, which has enabled him to publish articles on finance and economics in magazines on both sides of the pond. Today his main focus is economics.
He speaks Spanish, French and Portuguese fluently.
