Directed assembly of cathode interlayers enables efficient binary organic solar cells
Abstract Cathode interlayers create interfacial dipoles in organic solar cells to maximize device efficiency. However, the dipoles are highly dependent on the molecular orientation of the interlayers, which remain challenging to be controlled. Here, based on the amphiphilic nature of the interlayers, we show a stepwise film deposition approach using a polar solvent for active layer pretreatment and a bipolar solvent for subsequent interlayer self assembly.
Abstract The performance of inverted perovskite solar cells critically depends on the molecular contact formed by hole-selective self-assembled molecules. Conventional single-component hole-selective self-assembled molecules are prone to structural collapse under external stress, which disrupts hole transport and accelerates device degradation.

Substorm expansion embedded in a global cycle of field-aligned currents and auroral electrojets - Nature Communications
|
Abstract Geomagnetic substorms transfer solar wind energy into the planetary magnetosphere and ionosphere, producing auroral displays and ground magnetic disturbances, particularly intense during the expansion phase. Despite decades of study, the mechanisms governing the expansion phase remain unresolved.

Toughened self-assembled monolayers for durable perovskite solar cells - Nature
Abstract Hole-selective self-assembled monolayers (SAMs)1,2 have played a key role in driving the certified power conversion efficiency (PCE) of inverted perovskite solar cells3,4,5 to 26.7% (ref. 6). However, their instability often compromises the operational performance of devices, strongly hindering their practical applications7,8.

Nanotechnology-Powered Ocular Drug Delivery: A Promising Approach to Conquer Anatomical Barriers and Enhance Therapeutic Efficacy Ocular diseases pose a significant threat to vision and even lead to irreversible blindness, severely impacting patients' life quality. Traditional ocular therapies often fall short of providing effective treatment due to unique anatomical structure of the eye, particularly in the penetration of eye barriers.

Equally high efficiencies of organic solar cells processed from different solvents reveal key factors for morphology control - Nature Energy
Abstract The power conversion efficiency of organic solar cells (OSCs) is exceeding 20%, an advance in which morphology optimization has played a significant role. It is generally accepted that the processing solvent (or solvent mixture) can help optimize morphology, impacting the OSC efficiency. Here we develop OSCs that show strong tolerance to a range of processing solvents, with all devices delivering high power conversion efficiencies around 19%.

Organic Photovoltaics: Understanding the Preaggregation of Polymer Donors in Solution and Its Morphological Impact
In bulk-heterojunction organic solar cells, it is well established that the active-layer morphology significantly impacts device performance. However, morphology control remains very challenging. An interesting step in that direction was recently provided by the development of polymer donors that display a temperature-dependent aggregation behavior in solution; the aggregation characteristics were found indeed to play a determining role in the eventual active-layer morphology.
